Co-Ed Sleep Overs

I was watching Rachael Ray this morning and she did a little segment on co-ed sleepovers. I guess there was a mom who organized some kind of sleepover at a hotel. And there was one mom who said absolutely not. The doctor Rachael had agreed with the mom who said no. I was just wondering what your thoughts on this subject were. I know a lot of us have small children and hopefully wont have to worry about the teenage hormones for awhile, but I am interested to know if anyone here would allow their child to attend one of these. Would you allow a co-ed sleepover if it was in your own home?

I think I would totally be comfortable with a co-ed sleepover in my own home for SMALL children. I think the kindergarten years are fine for this. Beyond that year, I'd be less likely to go along with the idea.
For sure none after 1st grade.
A child will begin to develop, and I think before they do, co-ed sleepovers are fine. What...are some 5 year olds gonna get it on? Doubtful. Especially if they're being watched.

Now teenagers? Absolutely not!!!

And if I trusted the other child's mother, I'd let Jackson attend a co-ed sleepover.

I agree with jojo, granted Cody is too old for one now, I would have let him go to one when he was younger. At about 5 years old they just want to play and have fun.

Teenagers would find a way to misbehave whether we allowed a co-ed sleepover or not, so I think I would say OK as long as rules were given up front. Kindregarten sleepovers are too much work, they aren't always potty trained and they still miss their mommy's. Now an adult co-ed sleepover (which is what I thought you meant) would be fun!!

well my son's never been big on sleepovers & if he spends the night at a friend's home w/a group it's b/c they are all on the computers gaming the night away lol.

my daughter was not comfortable w/the idea of co ed sleepovers & she does not hang w/kids who enjoy this so it was never an issue....until she started attending anime conventions. what happens at the cons is a buch of people will share a room....male/female doesn't matter. when sarah started going she was about 15 & was attending w/an 18yo friend. this friend was extremely protective of my daughter....even taped a *jail bait* sign to her back until attendees got familiar w/her lol. friend never let sarah out of her sight either.

eventually i dropped my objection to boys sharing the group room. i trust my daughter. there is no privacy in these room....constant stream of people in & out. if she's going to do anything she'd have to find another location anyway.

she has a con coming up in february. she wasn't sure she was going to be able to attend b/c she can't afford a room at this point....or even to split costs & her usual tranportation was not planning to attend. she has gotten an offer from a male con friend. he will pick her up, give her space in the room...w/about four other people & cover her room costs. even tho she will be a month shy of 18 she still asked permission. my major concern was his driving record....which is clean as a whistle after driving 4yrs.

so i guess i have two answers....in home co ed sleepovers are still not so okay w/me. in the situation of a con i'm more amenable.

btw, jojo, i think if you allow the precident to be set at the kindergarten level it's almost impossible to put the horse back in the barn when the kids get older. lol

OH that's a good example of one of those possible exceptions to the rule. It's good to hear that your daughter has a friend as good as hers. Around here, it 's hard to find actual good wholesom kids in high school. When I was in high school I was the only one in my entire class, who had never done drugs of any sort.

overall i've been very lucky....actually my kids have been very lucky to have chosen good friends. of course there are some i like less than others, but overall......it's been good.

when sarah started going to cons she was pretty young for the usual crowd so they all became very protective of her. it seems some have not lost the habit lol.

I loved sleepovers as a kid, and there actually is one coming up soon, a co-ed one, but I don't think I'll let Jackson go. But only because of his behavioral issues. I think I'm one of the few who can actually handle him, and I dont' think group things are a good idea until we can get his situation under control with the proper medication.

He has built up a tolerance to his current medication, and he's reverted back to being absolutely unruly. He's kicking and hiting other kids, and totally not listening to his teacher. WE have an appointment Tuesday in Little Rock to discuss a new medication. *fingers crossed.*
