Cosmetic Surgery

Ok guys, since I figure I can pretty much talk with you all about anything and everything, I might as well get your input on this topic.

I am currently looking into possibly getting a little work done. The main thing is my husband pointed out last night that even though I'm pregnant I've been losing body fat, and right under where the great big baby bump is I have a lot of excess skin that hasn't really caught up with my weight loss. Actually I have had a little bit since I started my diet before I got pregnant but apparently I have more now. I am confident that he meant this in a nice way because after that he said he was proud of me and all because it's so easy to put on a lot of extra weight when pregnant. He then told me that if I wanted to look into it, he was pretty sure that our insurance would cover some of the surgery necessary to take care of the extra skin once I was done losing my weight (He kinda got talked into taking a higher level of insurance from work, and I thought it was a rip off and a waste of our money, but now I'ms eeing that it covers cool stuff like this). Then jokingly I asked if I could get my boobs lifted too, and he said yeah sure even if it isn't covered since they are for feeding his kids, he should at least be willing to invest in them. Sooo now I am really interested in the idea of getting a little work done. I figure I could take about a year and do some searching for information on the procedures, and doctors lose the baby weight and some more, and then when I am done weaning Aiden look into the breast lift.

So what do you guys think? Any advice?

I don't know if I could have actual surgery, but I wouldn't mind some laser treatments and non-evasive things like that on my face. There is a new type of liposuction as well that uses laser and your body regains the firmness. But that's really expensive. Just keep in mind all surgery's are serious and there is recovery time.

Oh and that's the part that really freaks me out. I've had 2 surgeries in my life, but how serious can a tonsilectomy be, and it was simple laproscopic surgery to remove my gall bladder. This would be major surgery and I will probly feel the ramifications for quite a while. I wish I could find a few people who've had it to see if it's really worth the pain.

Jess, I'm pretty serious about getting a tummy tuck and a breast lift someday. Just research it thoroughly and make sure it's the right decision for YOU. Noone else but you.

I did find something tht might be better than the tummy tuck. It's called a body lift and it is a whole lot less invasive and it gets the entire job done in one surgery instead of just a portion of your body.

I have thought about the tummy tuck at great length. But I only have one child and want more. So I really have to wait until then to look more into it. The research on it would be the most boring part. Can you get consults without having to make a decision right away

Yeah you can, at least with the two doctors that I have been e-mailing. In fact one offered to have a look at the state of tings right now to see if there was anything I could do to minimize the impact of my weight loss. He said something about few topical ointments that can revive elasticity and even though I may need surgery for some of the damage done so far, if I am a good candidate this cream stuff could mean that I would need less taken off when the time comes.

It ultimately comes down to what you feel comfortable with, because it is your body.

I would really look into the health insurance covering it though..... I don't believe that insurance plans cover costmetic surgery when there is not a pressing medical condition. I work for a health insurance company, and I've been in the industry for eight years, and I have not come across one that will cover it, although they may be different in your neck of the woods. There is such a huge effort going on in the health insurance field to control medical costs, and to try to keep premiums down that more services are getting cut than getting added these days.

Good luck with your decision.

I've never had any work done on myself, but my mom's had face lifts and I have a few friends that are pretty addicted to nips and tucks. My only advice is to be extremely careful about the doctor. There is quite a lot of pain associated with any surgery, but it hasn't seemed to stop the people I know who've opted for it. Here, in Toronto, there are several very competent plastic surgeons, but I've not the faintest how many you'd have to choose from where you are, Jess. But it's my guess that any surgeon would advise you to hold off on tummy surgery until you're sure that you've done with having babies. Ditto, breast stuff.

LOL well, I am getting a tubal ligation after the baby is born. I thought about it long and hard and decided that I was done having children. Now, in the future I would love to adopt a less fortunate child, but thank goodness, I don't have to go through childbirth for that. Also my doc is seriously recommending not having anymore kids on my own. Apparently baby Aiden is literally draining mommy to an unhealthy point.

ANY invasive surgery comes with risk, and it can be serious. You really need to give something like this a lot of thought.

Just last June, someone I knew had minor foot surgery. She ended up having some pins put into her foot, and everything was going along just fine. After several weeks, she was able to get the pins taken out. The doctor checked her, and said that everything looked good.

She went home, had her parents over for dinner, and then sent her husband out to fill her prescription. While he was out, she died of a blood clot that was apparently released from the surgical site...

A little off topic here, but my hubby needs to get the big V done, cuz I didn't have my tubes tied, there are less risks for the man. But my husband is a big chicken. I mean, Hey guys out there, what's the big deal about getting your balls snipped??

My hubby is all for doing it but I'm honestly scared because he was not supposed to be able to have kids in the first place, I am not sure if I trust another doctor to make another mistake like that.

Ok but I trust one enough to cut on my boobs ... I have issues.

If your husband will get the big V, then you should consider that before the tubal ligation. Like I mentioned it's minor for the man, and there are some risks for the woman

Definitely let the male get snipped! LOL, look at me, a little under a month ago I went to the doctor's office looking to have my tubes tied, and a month later I believe the tubes may be all that are left!
