Hey all, this reallys sucks, but Friday will be my last day posting during the day with all of you. They are cracking the whip at work, and they have threatened termination if any of us get on website that are not pertinent to our job. IN fact, to make their point, they took who is likely the biggest internet user there, which is me, and sent her home. Yes, I'm at home, in trouble for my chatting. I am also home tomorrow and Friday. Oh well. I will still be here at night, on the weekends and sometimes during the day Monday before I go to work. I know some of you only post during the day, so this will suck. Also, I will have to get permission to check my yahoo email during the day at work.
What's worse is that I was fucking blindsided. No warning at all. Boss man was fairly livid. He hates the internet, so he actually wanted to fire me, but he realizes how much of an asset to the team, and I do good stories and stuff.
And yes. WE have huge holes in our fucking roof. I didn't know this, but while I was out sick the Friday before last, one of the roof squares fell on a coworkers head. A big roof square. Heavy one.
Thanks, Kae. I'm going to put in a word with a guy who I do a lot of stories for. He owns a small trucking company, and they freaking love me! He runs a community development corporation, a small, neighborhood group that I do a lot of stories on. Anyway, they named me their person of the year last year for all the light I have shed on their efforts, so I'm going to ask him to keep an eye out for me. Unfortunately the job opps in my town are few.
Well, I'm pretty even in between Dallas and Little Rock, but they LR is 2.5 hours away, and Dallas 3 hours. I'm about 1.5 hours from Shreveport, so still too long to drive to everyday.
That's really cool, are there certain stories you report on? Do you go out into the field and interview people? How many articles do you write a week? How did you get in that field?
Well, I mainly cover city government and Texas state politics. I've always loved writing, so it was an easy decision for me to study it in college. And my reporting is about 50/50 in time spent interviewing folks over the phone and going out to interview. I write anywhere from 6-10 articles a week.
bummer, jojo. actually tho a lot of companies are cracking down on personal internet usage now. you could, of course, foil their evil plan by getting one of those cell phones that offers complete internet access....or is the boss banning cell phone usage too??

I'm sorry... That sucks! Most places do crack down on personal internet use these days (as I understand from friends and family), and frown on certain links.
It COULD be worse, though. Some employers log employees' key strokes!
(stupid typo)

Cingular was really crappy about stuff like that. They blocked everything that was not cell phone related, and they also monitored your screens every now and then while on calls. Now I do understand the monitoring thing, to make sure that they didn't improperly note an account, or anything like that.
OH no ...they can't possibly monitor your cell phone. That is your private property and if you ask me that's against your civil rights. I mean the computers are their property so they can get to control those, but unless they are paying your bill or buying your phones they should not have any say over them.
That sucks! Before I moved I worked for a financial company, and they blocked EVERYTHING!! It sucked, but you know they never blocked the SOC site, which is how I know you all, so I gues I need to thank them!
