ESPN has some stories regarding the Super Bowl rings and their importance. I particularly point to the 1986 one regarding Walter Payton's missing ring that finally got returned and the 1996 story of Larry Brown of the Dallas Cowboys and how his ring meant a lot due to the loss of his infant son that year. Lots of good stuff and good reading, I highly suggest it.
