Well, I stayed up to watch the whole darn thing and now I can't go to sleep. No surprises for awards, really, but the best part for me is the fashions, and I'm dying to hear what you all thought of the various dresses.
Who was your fave/worst dressed this night? I like Helen Mirren's gown - understated, yet elegant, and I thought Kirsten Dunsts's dress a horror. That collar - please! And the girl who has a famous brother, the one that made the first presentation, the girl with the two black feathers stuck in her hairdo, the same kind of feathers that she had on her dress hem? Well, UGH, just ugh. She did a decent presentation, though.
I thought Gweneth looked beautiful, as usual, and I loved that Meryl didn't get herself all trussed up in some designer get-up. She looked a little like she'd just come to the awards from a seminar or something. Anyway, I liked that part. And Reese Witherspoon looked fantastic. Seems singlehood agrees with her.
And what about Ellen? Did you like her? I thought she was pretty darn good, certainly better than some of her predecessors, and not cloying or boring.
I was sorry that Peter O'Toole lost out to Forest Whittaker, but Forest deserved the award, IMO. Oh, and I loved the dancers that made shapes behind the screen.
OMG, it's one a.m. - hours later than my bedtime. I'll be a train wreck tomorrow morning.
Yeah, Meryl took some flack from the fashion police for her Prada coat and "bohemian" necklace, lol. But I liked that she removed herself from the whole hooplah of gowns and jewels. She doesn't have anything to prove out there, and she has said that she finds the wardrobe angst very stressful.
What did you think of Nicole Kidman's red dress with that bow? I thought she looked like a Christmas present.
I didn't watch Joan and Melissa Rivers last night but caught a few minutes of them on Regis this morning. There are no words for those two, LOL.
Best in show? Reese, hands down! And Ellen was very good. And it's all over now for another year!
The Anne Hathaway dress? Just NO!! That bow looked ridiculous. It was the wrong shape for her figure and looked like some half-assed after-thought. She's a gorgeous girl and didn't need anything so over-designed. It was a flop, IMO.
The other dress that aroused some controversy here (on the morning show I watch) was Penelope Cruz's feathery thing. Most said it was a mistake, while one fashionista said they liked it. I didn't, but then I can't relate to wearing an umbrella made of birds' feathers. Poor birds!
Penelope's dress had alot going on, but she could pull it off. I thought Gwen looked great too. I didn't mind Jenifer Hudsons dress, but it annoyed me that she kept putting her hands in the pocket, it made it look sloppy
I'm glad somebody mentioned Jennifer Hudson's outfits because I wasn't impressed either. Apparently. according to Lainie Liu (the gossip columnist I subscribe to, quote sometimes), Jennifer had someone carrying her train around, lift it when she went on stage. Helen Mirren just scooped hers up, stumbled a tiny bit, composed herself, then went on up to accept her award. I guess that's the difference between a consumate pro and a brand new kid on the block. I was somewhat disheartenend to read about that, because I really want JH to do well, and be a sweet girl. Sounds like her handlers are spoiling her a little, lol.
