saw this on GMA this a.m. never occurred to me that employers would go this far....but apparently it's getting pretty common. so for those of us who use MySpace & have kids w/pages there & on Facebook give them fair warning.

My kids have always been super paranoid about anything posted on the internet. I used to tease them about it, but I can see now that they weren't so silly after all.
My daughter is graduating college in a few months, and I suggested, which she followed, that she remove a picture from her myspace account, and mark it as private. She also set-up a free yahoo email account, for her resume, and all job related correspondence.
I also had her search the internet for her name, to make sure that there was nothing out there, that could be found. I'm going to have to tell her to do the same with facebook.
Kid's these days are such voyeurs (sp?), I am so careful about what I put out, and I'm so self conscious that what if someone sees this or that. I grew up in a really small town though, everyone knew what every else was doing and that just stuck with me! And I also try to look my best when presenting myself in public.
You know though these kids today want to show up the next person with how wild they are. They flash body parts to be popular!
tess, be sure to tell your daughter to check more than just the google search engine. need to check all the popular ones at least.
i spoke w/jarrod about this already & he's already been googling himself. he had changed his pic on myspace. frankly he looked like a serial killer lol. he said the new pic is much better.
quite honestly, i think potential employers & admissions officials doing this is a huge invastion of privacy. then again anything you put out on the internet is fair game.
