I wonder how Asa will be written out. According to TV Guide, when Phil was offered recurring status (and we don't see him all that often anyway, so what's the big deal) he decided not to re-sign in April. Link below.
So ya. It doesn't surprise me. I think this has been coming for the past couple of years. I don't think he's upset on storylines as there's only so much he can do from his end and we all know that he has struggled with health. I can't blame him for not wanting to take the paycut either.
Here's to hoping they do him good in his exit. I'd love to see one last set of interactions with Todd, Blair and David and maybe even Dorian as they were always at odds. If I were Higley, I'd let choose how he exits the show and then write around it.

Knowing Phil's reported sense of humor, he'd probably have Asa take a bullet for someone he absolutely hates due to something Renee says that affects him. Last words: "Damned woman..." before he dies.

I'd rather Asa ride off to that island paradise he had with the secret wife, (Pamela?), than have him die. There's too much dying going on in real life, and I'd like a little fantasy for a change. He and David could be there together to get to know one another better.
i won't miss asa or phil one little bit. never liked the character &, bran, it's not his humor he's known for ~~~ if you read ES's newsletter interview she makes a comment about him being nice....for phil that is lol. i've met him & they certainly write asa so PC doesn't have to do much acting.
i think the producers had no option but to offer him recurring. he's been little more than recurring for the past few years anyway & why pay him contract rates (and given his logevity & the high contract rates from the heyday it must be high). it would be financially irresponsible for them to offer him a full contract given how pressed they are for money these days.
i am hoping for a good send off for him. he does deserve that....at the very least. i'm thinking a final heart attack w/david as the newly acknowledged buchanan. bo, clint, jessica, natalie, vicki, & renee all besdie. oh & nora & matthew there as well.
