Well life is crazy at work! I'm down to following the soaps through this board, and through the spoilers on various sites. I can honestly say that there are very few stories on the three ABC soaps that hold my interest. I didn't even bother reading the spoilers for OLTL this week, that's how much I have lost interest.
On AMC, I love my Zendall, and GH with LuLu and her men is cute to me, but that's about it.
On GH, I don't like this version of Carly. Elizabeth is on my black list right now and Maxie Pad is just a waste of air time, in my book. So there are more cons for me right now than pros, so it's off my viewing on the weekend list.
On AMC, I can't stand Erica or Josh and they are so central to the current plots that I pass on that also. I like Zoe, but since the character is leaving, why bother watching, I like my soaps because of the characters that I follow through at least a year. The Babe propping should end soon, thank goodness! I actually don't mind KWAK, when she's not Babe propping, I find her entertaining, in a sick sort of way. Heck I don't even mind Julia any more, and she used to be like nails on a chalk board with the whole nine years thing (we had some good posts over on SOC with the nine theme, and the dead bird sightings aka bad wardrobe thanks to Julia, threads).
So my fellow board posters, I'm not gone, just down to very limited soap stuff right now. although if I have many more weeks like this one is shaping up to at work, I may be around during the daytime very soon, while I'm looking for a new job, because I quit the one I currently have!
I don't blame you Tess, its not like any of them are super great right now. I've totally quit AMC again....I only watch OLTL out of habit maybe and because I like Bo and I like Nora.
GH i'm super stuck on Lulu and I like Jason, Sam and Liz other than those or maybe 2 others I wouldn't be watching it right now and they killed off one of my faves (Allan).
as far as ABC goes, I am only actually watching GH, its a habit really. Though I do read the recaps that SOD has on its website everyday. And along with Kae Y&R still has me pulled in. So does Days, tho I hate that Miss Sami just doesnt learn
Tina, I think what has happened to both Todd and Evangeline is that this GD romance planned for them has turned the characters around. I can't stand it when they're in scenes together. Thank goodness I now tape and watch later so I can fast forward through that swill.
Kae, I've stopped watching OLTL altogether. I actually catch a little AMC on the weekends, but other than that, I've pretty much abandoned ship. I only watch a little tiny bit of Days and some Y&R.
So now I'm really curious. Jojo, Tess and Herbst, did you switch off the television out of disgust or lack of interest?
For example, when the West Wing first started, it was must-see TV for my husband and me. There wasn't a chance we'd miss it! When Rob Lowe left, we still watched, but out of loyalty. Then one Sunday night, when something else was on (this was pre Tivo in the house) we didn't bother, and that was that. Soon after, it was mercifully cancelled (I think - didn't even bother looking for it). The same thing happened with Grey's and House - two shows I used to enjoy, and now, can't be bothered with. And I think Housewives is the next on the list. And don't get me started on what happened to my beloved X Files!
What happens when shows that caught on originally start to spin into the idiotic? Does the writing become complacent and begin to harp upon the sensational? Is it because it's repetitive and lurid? Does anyone have a more insightful take on this?
For me I basically think that it is really related to the direction that characters have been written. I have seen so many of my favorites written to prop storylines, or characters that I had no interest in, or seriously don't like.
I'll use as an example Clint and Vicki. They were always core characters for me. When we were going through the whole Jessica/Tess battles, there was so much Antonio propping when he was in his HTMP phase. I honestly thought his character was a complete ass, and it did not make any sense the way pod-Vicki and pod-Clint were written. Those two major characters lost me then. Nu-Marty doesn't do it for me, and I was not a big fan of the Marty character in the past. This character is really being butchered. She has lost her husband and only has her son, and moved back to Landview. So now her son is with Starr, and she's going to ship him off to military school to keep him away from Starr. Hello, did she ever think about moving to a different town? Really bad writing. I find John McBain a waste of time, and I don't like Natalie anymore because of the writing with the whole John thing.
Todd and Blair is so old and overdone, I just find them painful to watch these days. I don't like Antonio, from the HTMP days, so therefore I don't bother with Jessica and Nash, because it's all about Antonio. I don't like Evangaline either....
I also think the show is a snoozefest. So that's really it in a nutshell.....
Kae, it's a little bit of both. Because I'm so disgusted with it, I've lost interest. I'm sure I'll return at some point, but right now, it's not holding my interest enought for me to want to turn it on. I've watched both AMC and OLTL long enough out of loyalty, however, they've pushed me to my limit, and I quite frankly can't take anymore at the moment. Perhaps I'm on a break, LOL. Does that make it okay to cheat on them with Y&R?
LOL, Jojo! it isn't cheating to like Y&R when ABC has been making hash out of AMC and OLTL. Taking a break is a good idea anyway. I'm nearly there myself.
