I lost a $40 check

I wrote out a check to the guitar teacher before I left home, stuck it in my back pocket.

Then when I got to the music store to pay him, it was gone

I called my bank to stop payment and they wanted $30!

As far as you all know, can someone cash it, and if they do, can I catch up with them???

They have to have proper ID to cash the check and if it is cashed it should be traceable to at least the place they cashed the check.

Well here's my problem, I wrote it out to "Tom" no last name, My luck some Tom would pick it up!

Just hoping it's completely lost, like in the wind and rain...
