My spotless driving record will be remaining spotless, and I may be a candidate to do a Volvo commercial! I can now honestly say that I believe that owning my Volvo may have saved my life today. How many people do you know, that can say they have had an 18-wheeler back into their driver side door, while stuck in traffic, so you can't move the car, as you see the wheels of the cab backing into your door, and can't do anything except for scream? I'll bet it's only one, me. It was a Pepsi delivery truck. Darn I bought Coke last weekend, but this is really rediculous!
The whole car literally slid sideways as the truck pushed it, and the door did not cave in, crushing me. Darn the window did not even break. The metal beams in the car door are now very obvious, and carry the print of the tires that hit it, but they held up.
It was a total freak accident, the truck driver said my car was in his blind spot as he was backing up, and he was trying to back the trailer part into a parking lot, so he angled the cab straight across traffic, onto the other side of the road, and into the car stopped in line at a red light. I did some serious screaming as I saw the tires coming at me, and I was pinned in the seat by my seatbelt. I believe the term hysterical would not be a stretch.
The car is still drivable, and I'll be in a rental tomorrow, with my car in a body shop.
Yeah, I can't seem to get the image of the darn tire inches from my head as it hit the car. I honestly thought that I was going to be crushed, and I could not move, I was frozen in place screaming. Once he hit the car, I turned my head and closed my eyes. I just sat there screaming and trying to calm down after I realized that he had stopped, and that the tire had gone away from the car.
Volvo's are pretty low to the ground, so all I saw was the tire and then when I felt the impact I freaked. I called the Volvo dealership, and they recommended a body shop that they bring all their cars to, I was surprised that they don't have their own body shop. I am dropping the car off at 8 am tomorrow morning, and getting into a rental. They will coordinate everything with my insurance company. I don't want to attempt to drive it any more than dropping it off. It does not seem to be riding as smooth, and the body shop said that they would not be surprised to find some damage to the frame of the car.
I wonder how much this is going to cost, I'll bet they have to put a new door on the car, and there's a dent in the area below where the door is. They are expensive to repair, and since it's a 2005, I'll get all factory parts, thank goodness!
well you got all the pepsi dudes information right?? Shouldn't Pepsi's insurance pay for the damages?Forget the wine I think if I was you I would be hitting into some vodka or something
I called the police, and they came. They took all of the information, and actually gave it back to us on one piece of paper. I did not move the car until after the police came, even though I was in the middle of a busy road, I wanted the police to see exactly where my car was when the accident happened, so that there would be no questions related to who caused the accident, if for some reason the truck driver tried to blame me, which he did not, thank goodness.
I was around the corner from my insurance agent's office, so I went there immediately after the accident, and a claim was filed almost immediately. My insurance company will pay for the damages and the rental, but then they will do what is called subrogation, they will recover the money from the other insurance company. I worked in the property and casualty insurance industry for over seven years, so I have a really good insurance policy, with high limits. I actually pay about $20.00 more a year to have rental reimbursement coverage with a $45.00 day limit. Thank goodness I have that, so I can just get into a rental this morning, and not have to worry about coordinating with the other insurance company to have them pick-up the cost, which can be difficult.
The body shop told me that they will take the car, and coordinate having my companies insurance adjuster down to see the car for an initial estimate, and then when they take the car apart, they will have the adjuster back down to look at the insides for any structural, potentially frame damage. They are even coordinating having the rental company at their office this morning to pick me up for the rental.
It could have been so much worse, and the morning after, I realize that I had someones prayers with me yesterday. I am indeed a very lucking person!
Oh, I did not consume any alcohol after the accident. I get hangover's so easily, that the thought of waking up with a headache and slugishness this morning took that thought away. I'm in the middle of my busiest week of the year at work, we close out the financial books for last year, so I'm out straight with literally hundreds of extra tasks that need to be done...
my goodness tess....your right someone was certainly watching out for you..Yeah I dont blame you for not drinking, but I hope you did take that long bath that was mentioned...Anything to help calm the nerves a little bit...
Its a damn shame I like pepsi so much or I would switch for you, if it makes you feel any better my whole family prefers coke.

Shelly, you're cracking me up! LOL! I spent four hours at the hospital this morning. I think that every muscle in my body hurts and I'm starting with the bruises from the seat belt. What really stinks is that the area where I had my surgery is swollen up significantly. My abdominal incision is in the area where the lower part of the seat belt is, and it took a pretty bad jolt. They did a CAT scan and an ultrasound to make sure that there was no muscle tearing, or anything else damaged, that is in the process of healing from the surgery.
They determined that I have some pretty significant muscle trama, but it does not appear that anything has ripped apart, thank goodness! I was pretty scared for a while there with the thought of having to be opened up again, but it looks like I'll be avoiding that bullet!
My car may be totalled, there is damage to the frame, they just need to determine the extent. If it's totalled I will be out buying another of the exact same car, even down to the color. I have my fingers crossed that it's not totalled, I really love the car.
I can't take any time off, we're burried in the financial year-end close. I'll just be working remotely, from home, for a few days so I can minimize my discomfort, and maximize my productivity. As it stood before the silly accident, I was already planning on working this weekend.
