UGH!!!

I hit my dog with my car at my parents this weekend! It was so terrible, and I felt so bad, he had to stay at the vet over night and now he has this limp.....I suck!

Aww, Miranda. The guilt will go away at some point. You have to remember it was just an accident. He's okay now though, besides just the limp?

Miranda, if your little Dauchaund is anything like mine, he probably runs and hides and is into a serious game of trying to psyche you out..... Thank goodness you have him at home with you, and all he has is a limp. I know that sounds lame (no punn intended...), but thank goodness you have the little bugger home with you and your daughter.

It's really hard with little dogs. I swear I am so lucky that my neighbors must have a sixth sense related to my dogs, I swear mine loves to taunt me with running down the middle of my street, which thank goodness is a back country road. My mother once ran over our dog, Barron, and unfortunately the outcome was nothing like yours. My girls are a part of my family, so I can only imagine how bad and guilty you must be feeling.

Thank goodness he's there with a limp, and I'll bet he's enough of a character to know how to play it up for all it's worth! Mine mastered the art of the complete body shiver to evoke lots of lap time. Sometimes people think that she's having a seizure she plays the shiver up so much. When my daughter stops by to visit she goes into full actress mode, the dog that is......

Thank goodness he's OK!
I drive a mini van and always worry something is going to be in my driveway that I can't see

Sounds like the dog is okay, Miranda. As Jojo says, the guilt will fadeand the lesson will remain. It was an accident, hon.

Just be sure to spoil the little bugger to death while ya can and then don't get mad at him/her as much when they do something they shouldn't the next couple of times and you'll be cosmicly okay. And really, if it's a Dachsund, they're so low to the ground, how would you even know? It's not like it's an Akita that's as big as a car.

It's an accident. Forgive yourself. You're not a fly with a thousand eyes to see in all directions or Superman with the ability to see through things.

Well, I have two dogs now, and I hit the cocker spaniel not my dachsaund, I know this sounds terrible but I think I would have had a hard attack had it been the dachsaund, he is seriously like my 1st child. Bud, is our cocker spaniel and he isn't quite a year old. He has always been sooooo hyper and INSANE, but he really isn't so much right now, but I guess being hit by a car will do that to you! I had just fed the dogs inside and he came outside with me when I left, only I didn't know he came out, so I wasn't looking for him or anything.....he is starting to do a lot better though!
