Ron Carlivati has been promoted to headwriter of ABC's daytime drama "One Life to Live" effective immediately, it was announced today by Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group. He replaces former headwriter Dena Higley, with whom he worked as co-headwriter.
"For years Ron's talent has helped develop and deliver the kind of cutting edge, emotional storylines fans have come to expect from 'One Life to Live,'" said Mr. Frons. "His evolution from staff writer to co-writer over the last decade has increased his creative influence on the show. His passion for the characters and their fans make him the perfect choice to lead the storytelling into the future."
Mr. Carlivati has been a staff writer at "One Life to Live" for the past 11 years and a self-professed fan of the show since long before that. He graduated from law school at George Washington University in Washington DC, and briefly worked as a corporate lawyer before deciding to head to New York in 1996 to pursue a career as a soap opera writer. Upon his arrival he was hired at "One Life to Live" as a writers' assistant. During his time at the show, he has served as breakdown writer and, most recently, co-head writer.
"Ron's commitment and contribution to 'One Life to Live's' writing staff makes him an excellent choice to take on head writing duties," says executive producer Frank Valentini. "He has a contemporary sensibility, a quick wit and, above all, a tremendous passion for the stories in Llanview."
Emmy Award-winning "One Life to Live," created by Agnes Nixon, was launched July 15, 1968. Frank [Valentini] executive-produces. The popular drama consistently ranks among the top five in the key demographic of Women 18-49. The show is nominated for a 2007 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. "One Life to Live" airs MONDAY-FRIDAY (2:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

i had seen a rumor to this effect on SOC yesterday, but was waiting for confirmation from a reliable source.
i have to admit i'm dying of curiosity. we've been bitching about higley for close to three years now. OLTL got a best drama & best writer emmy nod. so why now? frons has always been a big supporter of hers. what changed? i want to know the precipitating factor. yes, i'm really nosy lol.

No, OLTL only got a best drama nod. There was nothing for writing. I'm just happy she's gone. Whether it was because of people's complaints or because she insults Frons' clothing. LOL
