Just stopping in to let you know that a new audition script was just released by ABC for the contract role of Mason. This is Natalie's new love interest. They may have dropped the name Evan and revamped a few things and are now calling him Mason. It could be that Mason is a new character in addition to Evan. With all the rewrites and changes going on, it's rather hard to know for sure but here's a summary of the script nonetheless. It gives us a few spoilers and confirms what I told you months ago, John and Natalie are done (unless Ron decides to rewrite this as he is the new head writer but only time will tell).
The scene opens at a bar called Xanadu. Natalie walks in as Mason is counting his money. Natalie says it looks like Mason made a lot of money last night. She apologizes for not being there. He flippantly tells her that it's fine by him. He understood that she needed to be someplace else just like he needs to be somewhere else right now. Natalie asks where he's going. He tells her that Lana gave him a hot stock tip. Natalie says she can't believe he would buy anything that Lana the skank had to say.
Mason defends Lana and says that she's as beautiful as she is smart. Obviously annoyed at this point, Natalie asks if he's now suddenly interested in Lana. Mason shoots back "What can I tell you, she was here and you weren't".
Natalie says "oh so one night I'm a no show and you're ready to move on"? Mason says he thought her new free spirit attitude was cute at first but it's now wearing thin because she disappears all the time. Natalie tells Mason that he's wrong. That she wants to be with him. Mason tells her that it's really OK because neither one of them made any promises to each other. He goes on to say that he had a really good time with her but it's time to move on obviously.
Natalie says that he can't just walk out on her like this. Mason says he knows Natalie played him anyway. Natalie is visibly upset by this and swears that she did that. Natalie asks him to give her another chance. Mason tells her that he knows that at one time she wanted to be with him but things have changed. She swears that she only wants him and he's got everything wrong.
Mason points to the money he's counting and tells her that it's all he has in this world. That it's why he's so desperate to crawl out from under the pile of crap he's been living in. He asks Natalie if she's so sure that she wants a piece of his world. Does she want to see where he really lives. Natalie says yes. Mason tells her no. Natalie says that nobody tells her no with Mason shouting back "I thought I just did". Scene ends.
