Tylenol PM can sometimes help. My husband has taken it, and says that it's nice because it's very gentle, and not like a sleeping pill.

Our neighbor's daughter, who grew up across the street from us, is now a doctor, and she's the one who mentioned it to my husband several years ago.

I used to have trouble getting to sleep because I couldn't turn my brain off, but now I have certain images or "favorite dreams" that I try to tap into, and I'm out cold within minutes. It's not a matter of actually trying to dream those dreams, because I know that I won't, but it's more like a series of comforting random thoughts that soothe me immediately.

Pick something like that for yourself. They don't have to make sense, they just need to be something that works! One of mine is walking through a colonial garden. I listen to the birds sing, and smell the lilacs, and other earthy scents. The paths are made of pebbles, and crunch under my feet. It's a colonial garden, rather than a modern one because there aren't any extraneous contemporary sounds, such as background traffic noise, or aircraft.

It's very peaceful. Then, of course, there's the ocean...

It's the antihistamine in Tylenol PM that actually makes the drowsies come. Benedryll (sp?) will do the same thing, but take a glass of water to bed with you because you'll be dry as dust come morning.

Tina, did you try taking some valarian before bed? I know that at certain times of the month, sleeplessness can be a common problem, and even though you'd been awake for long periods of the usual sleep time, in the morning there isn't the kind of weariness you'd expect. It's a useful period; don't worry or fight it. I call those nights my 'white nights".

KaeEll, you are absolutely right about the Benadryl... That stuff knocks me out cold.

I have horrible allergies and take benedryl all the time anyways, but you are totally right about the cotton mouth. I hate that

I felt so tired before bed I didn't take anything, and I think I was up worrying over everything stupid. I finally got sleep between 5:30 and 8:30. All of a sudden, my mind went into dream mode. I never understand what makes me wide awake and what makes me sleep. But I think hormones are to blame

The melatonin did not help, but usually valerian does. I think I should go to my health food store and get a bottle of something that combines all the herbs for sleeping.

Thanks guys!

Lately my insomnia has been kicking my butt all over the place. My doctor actually wrote me a script for AmbienCR and guess what, it didn't work either. Well, it did for the first few days, but then (like everything else) it stopped. He said he didn't know what to do for me then... LOL.
Now, when it gets really bad (like this past week or so) I just get up instead of tossing and turning and play on the pc, pop in a movie, or watch tv. Melotonin along with Benadryl works somewhat for me, however, now I have a tolerance for the Benadryl. LOL, what to do?

Hey John ever try warm milk, a hot bath one hour before bed, maybe some lavendar spray on your pillow. These are all little things I try. And Valerian with Kava, although Kae says Kava can be strong. Oh and a turkey sandwich!

Hi John!

Jackson takes melatonin every night. He wouldn't sleep without it!

Hey gang! Thanks for the suggestions Tina. I don't like milk though, except on cereal and as gay as I am I just can't make myself take a bath. I get too bored, now if Matt McConaughey or Steve Burton were in the bath, hecks yeah. But then it'd be less about the bath and more about the cleaning of every part before we got them all heated up again. LOL
jojo, if I haven't told you yet I absolutely love those pics of Carl Edwards. I found them quite a while back and have went gaga over them ever since. He could back flip out of my Malibu anyday.
Thanks for the welcome Kae.
My pc is DOA right now. I acquire a virus or something a while back and bought me Norton 07 which fixed THAT problem but now it's acting all wack again. A guy my brother works with is going to be checking it out for me. Right now I'm house and pet sitting for a couple from my church. I'm having such a great time. Solitude is so nice and is something I've missed. But then again who can be in solitude with 4 dogs, 1 cat, 2 horses and a mule to keep you company? At least they don't talk back and are extremely happy to have someone new to pamper them. Their humans are going to have some spoiled canine's when they get back.

Isn't he DELICIOUS?!? And you can look, but ya can't touch. He's all MINE. Teehee...
I'm still wishing for a nekkid back flip. But it doesn't look like he's gonna win the race tonight. Stupid flat tires. HMMPH.

I'm glad you're having a good time. I miss you bunches!

Pet sitting sounds like alot of fun!

I get bored in a bath tub too, it's nice to soak in some epsom salts every once in a while though. they have some at Walmart with Lavender

Also avoid food with hidden caffeine ;)
