Tuesday, June 26 - what's up today?

So what's on the agenda for you kids today?

I'm going for a shampoo and blow dry at 11:30, then off to babysit Vanessa until 5 while my d-i-l goes to interview some new midwives.

I heard from Nick this morning, and he and Laura are now both back from painting the weird guy's fence. Laura's working at a cafe, getting paid $16.70 an hour!!! and Nick is selling driveway resurfacing door to door (ugh). Mike's in Denver and Tony's in Calgary. Ted left bright and early for a conference call, and both doggies are asleep on the sofa beside me.

The A/C is on - it's bloody awful hot this morning, and humid, smog warning in effect. I love summer, but could do without the humidity. And I accidentally left the sprinkler on in the front yard overnight. I thought I'd turned it off at 11, but instead I had cranked it up full tilt. Oops! That's a big no-no in this town. We're supposed to water only after 7 p.m. or before 8 a.m. and only for 3 hours twice a week. But I have three massive maple trees in my yards that gobble up water like mad, leaving the grass sort of parched.

A new by-law is now in effect, too. For not picking up dog poop in a public place, a $240 fine. Apparently there will be civilian dog-poop officers patrolling popular areas handing out tickets to offending citizens. Good thing I never walk my dogs, just let them have a good romp in the back yard a few times a day.

So what's on the docket for you today?

Wow, 16.70 an hour. I need a job like that. I am stuck at work again today and not looking forward to my 20 minute walk to my car this afternoon. Like you its hot here, there is actually an advisory out for little kids and older people to stay inside because the air is all gross today. UGH...oh well, dont you lose more weight when you sweat anyways, I hope so cause thats what will happen when I walk home. I was going to try and walk the long way so that I could get a 45 minute walk today but not in this weather.

It sounds like your kids are all doing good...

And I am so jealous. Our house has no AC. We have 2 really large fans but thats it, I think a cold shower may be in order for when I get home.

And I would hate to be the cops who have to walk around patrolling for dog poop in the gross humidity.

Restaurant servers get paid well in Australia, but tipping is not normally done by locals. Nick said that on Sunday, Laura made $120 in tips, on Monday, $6. I guess that's the difference between weekenders and work day customers.

No A/C? Oh Shelly, you poor baby! I couldn't manage a summer without it. We don't like to turn it on unless it's gross out, and today qualifies, for sure.

Chris Daughtry was just on Regis & Kelly. I like him! I've got it on mute now and Freddie Prinz is yip yapping. he's kind of cute. Isn't he married to Buffy?

Who on earth would volunteer to patrol for dog poop? I mean, for heaven's sake, I have to make my husband a smoothie and promise him extra treats just to go clean up our back once a week before the gardeners come Thursday mornings. They had a fit the first mowing of the season before Ted got out there, said they couldn't use the whipper snipper thingy becasue of all the poop. They said it would have been flying up at them.... . He tosses it into the cedar hedges and they have really grown tall and fat as a result. Just in case you've ever wondered about what's done with it, lol.

Me over here, I'm trying to figure out the Benoit family tragedy.... it saddens me the more I here about it:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/06/25/wrestler.dead.ap/index.html?cnn=yes

Then at at work we're dealing with silly issues created by a feature in our software. If you have an anti-spyware subscription and use our e-mail scanning shield, it may conflict with your anti-virus software's e-mail scanner causing you not to get e-mail. So of course we're getting a crapload of calls on that.

Well I think that today is the first day that the AC will truly be needed. And my hubby is gone for the month so I wont be able to get one until he gets here...I havent the foggiest how to install the things. And it sucks cause the windows in our living room are slanted so I dont think I could put one in there. So the main rooms in our house are stuck with no AC anyways. GRR...I need to find some kind of AC unit that doesnt have to go in a window, is there a such thing. We rent our house so we cant get a huge unit like most houses have...grr...

thats so sad, if they need an autopsy to figure out how they died I suppose that means drugs were involved.

The Benoit story is really sad. Yikes, a 7 year old! What could have been so wrong for him to have done that?

Shelly, I think that there are all sorts of A/C units out there. We've always had central, but one of my kids lived in an old place with strange windows and found one that had accordion type extenders on either end, was tall and skinny instead of wider than tall. It's sitting in my garage. If you could pop over, I'd give it to you.

In the meantime, try a few oscillating fans. They're so much better than stationary ones, IMO.

All I can say is from everything that was said at last night's tribute to Chris (which ran when they didn't have any of these murder/suicide angles to this situation yet) everyone said how jovial he was, good to be around, and so forth.

It's a tough call to figure what would cause him to snap, if they have this entirely wrong or if perhaps there was something in his system that cause this flare up (toxicology reports take awhile to complete).

So it'll be awhile before we know anything. All I can say is no matter how you put it, there were 3 victims on this, no matter if Chris was a prepatrator or not.

we had a case like that here in recent weeks, a man shot and killed his wife and three kids, he tried to pretend he didn't do it (that she did it), but they got him

Today I have to get my oil changed and run for a few things, not much. It's going to be hot as hell

I should iron

have to look at my dad's pc one more time

I had weird dreams, still feel like I'm in a fog

Been fighting with the hubby alot, I wonder if I should ask for a divorce or stick it out a few years. The problem I have with divorce is that things will get really ugly, he has a temper, and we'll just be fighting for the next 15 or so years either way. And right now I have no job, not enough equity in this house....

hmm.gif

Just popping iin while I munch on some lunch before going to babysit for 1 p.m.

Tina, take it slowly and try that stuff I told you about. It's saved many marriages.

See ya'll later. I'm out the door.

Shelly, I taped Y&R, saw the first 15 minutes this morning. Nick gets saved by a plane that saw Logan's SOS.

This day just got worst. From the breaking news on CNN:

A law enforcement official close to the investigation tells The Associated Press that pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room.

Fuck....

Yeah the story goes, he missed a house show on Saturday (aka non-televised event) and informed people in management he would not be at Vengenace (PPV event) on Sunday. There were weird text messages certain people in the company got from him that made them concerned so they checked and found the situation at 2:30 pm EST on Monday.

I wondered what was up with him not being on the PPV since he was in line to compete for a championship (which in wrestling is a big respected thing amongst the wrestlers). But they said he was out due to "personal issues" and so I thought it had to be pretty intense personal issues, I just never figured it would be that.

Yep, I never understood that either. The DA made a statement that things appear to be a murder/suicide but they investigating all angles.

This just sucks. I've watched this guy wrestle for 10 years. Never a glimpse of trouble, no reports of him causing issues backstage, etc. Just a pure professional.

I heard on the car radio on my way home a few minutes ago that steroids were found in the home, and that their use may have contributed to Benoit's depression and instability.

He was from Montreal, so it's all over Canadian news today. What a tragedy.

Well, I got up unpacked the last of the boxes (that I know of), Put Bethany's appliques up on her walls. And now we're getting ready for a ball game at 6. Tomorrow I'm applying for a job with the Y working in the Teen Center and teaching Dance. I figure it'd be perfect, because they have the on site day care, so my child care would be free. Yay lol. That and I wouldn't have to travel any before or after work to go work out lol.

Today was another insane day in the office. I managed to get in there for 6:30, but I did not get out until 4:45, which got me into the middle of the mass exodus from Boston, and bumper to bumper traffic for 25 miles. It took one hour and 45 minutes. Ouch!

I was going to take the girls for a walk, but Tess will not budge beyond the end of the driveway. We're at the start of a heat wave here in New England, so I'm getting the same warm weather as Shelly, although I think we may actually be a few degrees cooler up here, over the
Connecticut border.

I have not taken the air conditioner out of the basement, it just seems so wrong to stick it into the window in June. I have an awesome big fan, that Tess is sitting in-front of. I leave that on in the kitchen for them while I'm at work, where they are gated in. It has a ceramic tile floor, so it stays cool for Tess. Between the fan and the floor, she manages to stay somewhat comfortable.

I hate closing the windows, it just seems like the winter is so long, and the months where they can be open, with the air flowing so brief, although if it goes over 95 tomorrow, that AC is coming out of the basement. The weather should be in the low 80's this weekend, and I have a five day weekend coming up. YeHa!

More of the same tomorrow, although I'm car pooling with my co-worker who only goes into the office on day a week, she works three days, and lives 100 miles west of the office, so we try to meet and do the last 50 miles together. It makes a nice difference from driving alone, no to mention saving 200 miles a month wear and tear, and gas, on each of our cars.

yeah we do have good fans. We have 2 of the tall skinny kind that oscillate. One out here in the big room and one in the bedroom. I think I may call the housing people and see if we are allowed to put in ceiling fans...I think that would help. Our windows are open because this house is kind of big and it would be SO stuffy with them closed.
