SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- "General Hospital: Night Shift," the new original series airing on SOAPnet has lifted the network to record heights in both Total Viewers and Women 18-49. The series debuts as SOAPnet's most watched series premiere of all time in Total Viewers, Women 18-34 and Women 18-49.
On Thursday, July 12, "Night Shift" debuted with SOAPnet's largest Total Viewing audience in the Network's history (1.0 million viewers) and its largest reach with Women 18-49 (498,000 viewers) for any single telecast aired on the network.
"Night Shift" ranked #2 in Women 18-49 against all basic cable networks airing programming in its 11:00 PM timeslot. In addition the series placed 8th in Women 18-34 (192,000 viewers) and 10th in Total Viewers.
A spin-off of ABC Daytime's "General Hospital," "Night Shift" built off of its "GH" lead-in growing 63% in Total Viewers (1.0 million vs. 639,000), by 60% in Women 18-34 (192,000 vs. 120,000) and by 53% in Women 18-49 (498,000 vs. 325,000).
The series premiere of "Night Shift" grew from its year-ago time period levels of 341% in Total Viewers (1.0 million vs. 236,000), by 482% in Women 18-34 (192,000 vs. 33,000) and by 547% in Women 18-49 (498,000 vs. 77,000).
Starring Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Kimberly McCullough (Dr. Robin Scorpio) and Jason Thompson (Dr. Patrick Drake), "General Hospital: Night Shift" is a production of ABC Studios. The series airs Thursdays at 11:00 PM, EST/PST on SOAPnet.
Robert Guza Jr. serves as Head Writer with Jill Farren Phelps serving as Executive Producer. ==============================================================
Ultimately that means that Night Shift got a .9 rating for its first show. Where as the actual show is doing 2.6. So only 35 percent of the viewers of GH are watching GH Night Shift. I wouldn't consider that a huge win but a .9 for a network like Soap Net isn't bad.

well and for a show that comes on so late thats good. Cause a lot of us either watch the reruns or we DVR it, and I dont think that even the reruns count towards the ratings
I think from reading that that soapnet will consider it a gigantic hit. If it can maintain anything like that for the overall run maybe they'll spin it off for real or really get some actors to constantly play on it ,because at this point I don't know how they can have the ones on there doing double duty all the way through, at some point they'd probably burn out.
If it winds up being successful enough maybe they'll just rotate cast members in and out.
I think it will be more of a hit once Jason is out of jail and the show makes more sense. A lot of viewers cant suspend reality enough for this to make sense..
Then again on Port Charles they had vampires running around and you wouldnt know it by watching GH
It is on soapnet, though I have been told that it is also online. And apparently my standards arent as high as some of the people in here are, I think its a pretty good show. In fact I kind of like it more then GH on some days because Jason isnt as much of an Ass on Night shift as he has been on GH. And while Maxie is still a slut at least she isnt being bitchy on this show. I never could get into Greys Anatomy so this will have to work for my hospital drama
though I am a little irritated that they had to do a spin off in order to have stories about the hospital....besides I have to like it, one of the young nurses shares my babies name.
yeah, I am a little irritated with the lack of consistency (like the fact that Maxie chopped her hair on GH but on NightShift she still has the long hair with the REALLY bad roots), but overall i like the show
