I am working from home today. My aunt is up from Baltimore, so last night we went to Foxwoods, which is a casino in CT. I did not get home until 2 am, so I am seriously dragging this morning. I only drank soda, so at least I am only dealing with being tired.
I lost around $100.00, but had an absolute blast. Foxwoods is truly an amazing place.
Here is a link to it, if you have not heard about it. It is the largest casino in the world.
damn woman Foxwoods is like 20 minutes from my house. I live very centrally located to both it and Mohegan. I need to give you my number in case you come down again.
I am good, today is my 3rd anniversary and our 2nd where we arent together. Last summer I was in Phoenix playing nurse with my grandma who died, and this year the Navy decided they wanted Vinnie in Washington. Oh well, I knew what it would be like when we got married. We married on a Saturday and by Monday he was already off to work in another state. Oh well, such is life eh.
Anyways, I am here at work trying to figure out how to scam it so I can still get paid for the 2 weeks that I will be gone. Dont know how that will work but we will see.
I got a ice coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Its Toasted Almond flavored and really good if you guys like iced coffee.
Aw, Shelly, Happy Anniversary!! I know how it feels to be alone on a special day. For the first few years of our marriage, when Ted was still in the army reserve, he was away ALL the time on either birthdays or anniversaries. Three weekends a month he was on ski patrol and the fourth one in the army thing. I was so glad when that ended.
Today is another day "off" for me. I stayed up watching Midsommer Murders until 1 and was up at 7 for the doggies. The coffee felt good going down, but I'm still running on adrenalin. Shelly, I love iced coffee but haven't had any for the longest time. The stuff at the coffee shops here is loaded with all kinds of junk, so I just stay away from it. My mother used to make a wonderful pitcher of it a long time ago.
We had a lovely dinner out last night at a friend's place. She has a gorgeous garden and we sat outside yapping until after nine when the rain started and we scooted in for dessert. It was so nice to have someone else cook for a change!
Shelly, Foxwoods is a 40 minute drive for me. The trek down 395 is a very easy one, because it is really light related to traffic. I checked out the web site, and they are building an MGM Grand out there, the place is incredible, it is like a city, with 340,000 square feet, the largest casino in the world! Happy anniversary!
KaeEll, I hope that you have a relatively stress free day, goodness knows if anyone deserves it, you most definitely do!
I have to go make another BIG cup of coffee, so that I can get some work done here. I just got off of the phone with my mother and aunt. We had such a good laugh, my mom had to get off the phone because her side hurt.
Im so glad that you had a good dinner, after all the junk you are going through with your parents you deserve it.
Me and my hubby celebrated a bit early and had dinner at Outback last Thursday, the steak there is oh so good. We brought Jolene with us even though it was an anniversary dinner because I wanted her to be able to spend time with her daddy since I knew he wouldnt be home long. It was still a good dinner.
Kae, do they have Dunkin Donuts up there. I have become hopelessly addicted to their coffee, I order it with skim milk and splenda so its really not bad for me. They have 9 flavors, 1 of which is a blueberry flavor that surprisingly enough is pretty good. I actually prefer Dunkin DOnuts these days to Starbucks, is that nuts
Good morning Gals (and guy?)!! Hope everyone has a great day! I was hoping to plans some play dates for this week, I'm in a social mood, but everyone else is busy I guess.
So I might get a hair cut, just an inch or so.... And that's about all I have on my agenda!
Love those iced coffees, McDonald's actually has a good one. But then I get all jittery. More than usual.
I need a prayer, should I start a new thread? My cousin Robin is ill, they don't know what yet. But so far her medical bills are $8,000. They're planning a fundraiser to help pay for that. I guess let's pray it's not too serious and the bills will somehow get paid. Thanks!
Great new avatar, Tina. It's like you're right here in the room with me!
Shelly, I think we have Dunkin' Donuts here. Krispy Kreme (sp?) came up for a while, thought they'd take over the donut business but it didn't catch on at all and they folded up shop. There might be the odd one but it was a hasty retreat. I tried one of their donuts and found it inedible, really sweet and gluey. Yick!!
We have a huge chain here called Tim Horton's and I like their coffee much better than Starbuck's, too.
Good morning, ladies and gents. Tess, good idea for a second cuppa this morning.
My husband LOVES the Tim's iced something or another with mint. He's like a big kid with those things. There's me with my small coffee, 2% milk, and he's all smiles and slurpy with his gigantic frothy thing in front of him. He can lose weight by skipping dessert and I'll gain if I look at one. So NOT fair!
I think Tim's is now owned by the same people as Wendy's. It used to be owned by a Canadian hockey player, Tim Horton, who was killed in a car accident a long time ago. His widow was swindled out of the chain (can't remember the details) but it was a really sad story as she ended up on welfare.
We used to eat the sanwiches there on a regular basis because there was one in the town of Stayner that was about 40 minutes south of our cottage and we'd pop in there on the way home ALL the time. But when the chain was bought out, they started using additives and we'd get that "MC-feeling" so we stopped ordering any of their food. We buy Tim's coffee to brew up at home. It's about $14 for a large tin, lasts us about 2 months. Our son, Nick, used to eat 3 donuts from Tim's after school before his sax lessons on Thursdays. I was so jealous!
Thats messed up about his wife, I hate when people do things like that. Makes me mad. I dont eat/drink at Tims much because I have finally figured out how I like my coffee at dunkin donuts, you know just the right amount of skim milk. Thats why I dont drink McDonalds coffee because they dont have skim milk. I have a little lactose problem so cream is a big no no for me and I cant drink it black....blech
I got my hair cut and feel really glamorous, Do you have Mario Triccoci by you? They do a great job for $35. More than I like to pay, but other places can be even higher. And I only go about once a year.
My last hair cut experience was awful, the girl cut too much off, so I was really thrilled today when she only took off about an inch and my hair feels all silky and healthy again!!
Kae, I don't know that I've seen a pic of you... And we're waiting on Sophia's with her blonde hair.
Tina, there is a picture of me in my photobucket. Go to the Bangkok picture thread and open the whole album in there. It's not very big, but it's me!
In the meantime, I'll try to find a bigger one. Most of my Kodak EasyShare files were obliterated a while back, and I still haven't bought myself a new camera yet. My afternoon at the spa yesterday kind of put huge whack on my Visa, so I'm laying low for the rest of the month.
Okay, I just added a larger image. it was taken a few months back and my hair's in my face, but it's me alright, lol. We were at my son Tony's house, in a huge leather chair.
thats nice you got your hair done. Its such a good treat for all women. I need to get mine done but am waiting til it is a little longer so that I can get a better style out of it. Its a little silly I have really long hair that I never leave down but its there in case I need to do the dress up thing for whatever occasion.
Shelly, NOTHING is worse than hair cut too short. It ages us, makes us look fatter, and generally is about the worst cosmetic error made most commonly amongst all of us! I went to this guy once that hacked off too much of my hair and I wouldn't go out without extensions for a month. That was a long time ago, but I've told my hairdresser a million times that I'd rather be back in 3 weeks for another trim than have it too short by half an inch this time. She never makes that mistake now, ever!
So never apologise for having long hair. It's so much more versatile! Just have it styled in the most flattering way. There have to be tons of great stylists in Groton.
I know it may sound obsessed but I really love Rachael Ray's hair. So I am waiting for my hair to get a little longer so that when I have the layers put in it doesnt shorten my hair too much. I really want her color too...Wish I could get that out of a box...
Shelly, you can any colours out of a box! There are oodles of products out there, and if you really want to do it yourself, enlist a friend to do the highlights for you because it's hard to get them even, especially at the back.
Best would be to save up for the hairdresser to do it the first time, though. And none of that cap nonsense. Foil application only! Some cheapie hairdressers STILL use the cap method, unbelievable! Argh.
Dunkin Donuts is the best! They were actually started here in Massachusetts, and I swear they are in almost every gas station/mini-mart around.
Every day, when in the office, my best buddie and I go for a walk to Dunkin Donuts, and I get a large french vanilla ice coffee for our walk. I am seriously addicted.
I can remeber driving down to Williamsburg about six years ago, with my ex-husband. We went through Dunkin Donuts withdrawl. We always swore that we were going to go to Ireland and start the first Dunkin Donuts franchise in Waterford.
shelly you could get long layers now and let the hair dresser know not to take off the length
and highlighting at home is fairly easy. I let my hair go to it's natural color when I was pregnant with Gabi, which is a kind of dark, reddish blonde. And then I decided to put highlights in after she was born. You pull hair thru a cap and put the bleach on. I was happy with my results
Cool Tess, if I come up to meet we can get some Dunkin Donuts. Yummy stuff there
And Tina sadly enough I am hardly talented enough to plain out dye my hair with a box. I always miss stuff in the back. But I go home next week and maybe I can get my mom to do it for me..
Shelly, when I did my own hair colour, I'd always buy 2 boxes because the one wouldn't be enough to do my whole head. I have kind of thick hair and used to wear it a few inches longer than it is now. With the second box you don't need to worry about making the first one reach everywhere.
Tina - those caps are brutal! How could you stand to pull your hair through the holes. Ack.
Shelly, I also went the two box route, my hair was also longer and thick, and after one disaster, I learned that two boxes make the process much easier. Make sure that they are from the same lot.
I colored my own hair for years, until one time when I missed a big patch across the back of my head. That time I got the underneath fine, the ends and roots were okay, but I missed the whole portion across the back of my head because I ran out of dye, and did not realize that I had missed it, because I pulled it up, and used a clip to hold my hair up while I was waiting for it to process. I had to go to a friends house the next day for her to fix it. After that I always went to the salon for them to do it, because I found out that having a professional was not that expensive. I believe that it is only around $40.00 to have your hair colored, when added to the whole haircut process. After I factored in the cost of buying two boxes of hair color, I went that route.
I would ask for advice on the brand to use for the coloring yourself process. Some of them are easier than others, and less harsh on your hair. The pain about maintaining color is that after first doing the color, you only need to have the roots touched-up, because the color can build-up on your hair after multiple treatments, and hair that has been colored previously can hold the color better than the roots, which are being processed for the first time, so you could inadvertently end-up with different colors in your hair.
Lot's of people color their own hair, there are just a few things that you need to watch out for.
I do color my own hair...and I also have to use 2 boxes but even if I dont miss spots I am always afraid I will. I actually tend to use a full box to get all my roots and then go for the hair that I usually have in a clip. Tess Im gonna come over and have you dye my hair...haha that would be an expensive dye job.
