A Quiet Sunday

So what's up for today everyone? We're heading to Pier One for stem glasses - seems we go through about a dozen a year and we're now down to 2. Good thing they're about $3 a piece. Can't justify buying anything better than those at the rate glasses break around here. We never made it to the store for a coffee maker yesterday, so that's on the list for today too.

Hot and humid here. Aaaw, a nice quiet Sunday.

I'm having another lazy day. I was outside early, cutting back the weeds that just want to come through my fence, and I managed to get bitten by something. It swelled and hurt, but I did not have to go to the hospital, thank goodness. I took a couple of benadryl, and just got up off of the couch. I tried mowing the lawn, and ran out of gas.

I think tomorrow may need to be taken as a vacation day, from work....

Tess, have you ever tried a product sold as "After Bite"? It's really just a little container of ammonia, but it does wonders for an insect bite. Also, for keeping pesky biting bugs under control in the garden, best 5 bucks I've ever spent, is a wasp trap. Home Depot has them. You just fill with apple juice and a few drops of dish washing-up liquid to help the little buggers drown more quickly. I got lots of customers in that thing last summer, and this year, just the one so far.

I HATE getting stung! One year while trimming my quince shrub, a huge wasp flew down my tee shirt and bit me where the sun don't shine. In 2 seconds I had my shirt off and ran screaming into the house. All neighbours were outside for that spectacle. Ugh.

I'm just sitting here waiting for the race to start. I was going to mow this morning, but the lawnmower won't start. I think it finally croaked.
I'm going to do some more cleaning out of stuff today, and my mom and her boyfriend will be here in a bit to move some more stuff out.

I'm STILL waiting for Ted to finish shaving so we can get going to the stores. Thank goodness that damn bicycle race is finished.

Jojo, wish I could help you with the packing up of stuff. Got tons of experience moving my kids in and out of here a dozen times. We still have all the boxes from the latest move - Mike from here into a nasty little sublet in student ghetto zone down by the university, and another move come September. I will not paint, though, lol. I draw the line there. Last time I painted was Mike's really cute third floor place on Indian Road near the Keele subway station, and it was hot as hell in there, and he left there to move to NYC within a year. Then he moved three times there, from Croton-on-Hudson to Queens, then to a 5th floor Manhattan walk-up closet dump, then his then-wife was refused entry back to the US after Christmas and they had 3 more moves after THAT until they finally split up and he took off for a year.

Aw, he's finally ready! See ya later.

FINALLY, some decent rain!

I'm one of those lunatics who adores a good rainy day, and we've needed rain around here for weeks. We've been teased and teased, but only the humidity remains, and the rain never materializes. We got a little bit last night, but then today we were blessed with a lovely, constant rain mixed with an occasional soft roll of thunder. It's absolutely divinely cozy!

I had a marathon phone call with our oldest daughter down in North Carolina, which was fun, and our son is coming over for some dinner tonight. Our youngest daughter went out...

I'm making some homemade gnocci that has no potato in the recipe, but is made primarily from ricotta. It's SO easy, and very light, and I have just now finished the last batch. Then, I'm kind of making up a chicken dish. I'm using boneless breasts that I'll brown, and then cook in a stovetop grill pan. My son adores prosciutto -- he fell in love with it in on a trip to Italy (the street vendors sold prosciutto pizza freshly made), so I'm going to wrap the cooked breasts with the prosciutto, and then top them with a light sauce made from reduced chicken broth and fresh lemon.

Lastly, I'm going to zap some asperagus. I've finally decided that it's the best way to cook it!

Hopefully, I can squeeze in about an hour of reading before he gets here... (I played at the bookstore yesterday!)

Wow, Moore, you are my cooking idol! Your dinner sound delicious!

We received a significant amount of rain up here yesterday, it basically rained all day, on and off. The rain did not take the humidity away, and we are scheduled for more of the same tomorrow. I hate humidity, I could never live in the south!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend, and a nice easy slide into the work week!

we went to my in laws, my mom in law has a bday in two days, so we celebrate together.

She had a small stroke last week and has not been feeling well, but she was so lucky it could have been much worse

we had pizza and cake, so healthy! The kids swam that was nice. Doesn't feel like my birthday at all!

But I got money as a gift, since she couldn't shop, so I will enjoy buying myself something nice!

and if I didn't mention I got an MP3 player and love it! I can load up to 500 songs. I love Lifehouse and Nickelback, going to be loading those for sure.

It was nice, but hot here, and Moore, I LOVE a rainy day too. Especially when you can sleep in and hear the rain hit the roof. I should move to Seattle
