Another week has slipped past like a second in time. August is so precious as the last real month of summer, so I'm holding fast to each day.
Yesterday was a real treat (sarcasm) as I had to fire my parents' live-in girl and the woman from the agency was horrible about it. Within 30 minutes of notification, the girl had packed her things and was speeding away in a taxi. My parents were greatly relieved, as was I to some degree, but now the burden to find an alternative solution is back.
We have a long weekend ahead of us - no particular reason other than we need as many of those luxuries as possible during the good weather. I think some politician decided to call it Simcoe Day a while back. It's just a bank holiday, so many stores will be open.
So what's on the agenda for today? Anything exciting coming up for the weekend? Oh, we have Caribanna here, starts tomorrow. It's a big Caribbean carnival. Ted loves going to see the parade, I'm lukewarm about it - too crowded and I don't like the smells from the food kiosks. But we'll probably end up taking the streetcar down again, sit squashed amongst the crowds, walk for a few kilometers, not be able to see the grand floats, then hobble back. I can't figure out why he likes it, but hey, it's summer, and we have to do it.
Happy Friday. Today we begin the last weekend that I am here with family. I took 2 weeks off but only get to spend a few days with mom because we have to drive back, so that stinks.
Anyways, not much on the agenda thank goodness. I am tired, I hope everyone has a happy friday. Kae I hope you can find a better solution quickly so you dont spend all your time worrying about it
Oh Kae you poor dear! I hate to hear that your having so many issues. I hope you come upu with a solution quickly. My Friday is going pretty well. Another insanely hectic day though. I really thought thing would slow down once baseball was over (silly me). Today I took the hubbub to work, cashed the check, paid our bills, and now I'm at my mom's while the kids swim and Aiders plays in his little exersaucer. That thing is amazing!!! Anyways after this we have to rush over to vacation bible school, I get to teach the children the African song that I learned while in chorus, and then hurry to pick the hubby up from work find something to fill our bellies with and then probably fight with the computer and internet (at the same time lol). Maybe I'll sleep sometime hehe.
So here's what happened with the Guyanese girl. First off, she was 19 years old, couldn't cook, was lazy, was easily bored (and taking care of 2 old people is no teenager's dream), she ate everything that wasn't nailed down, changed the TV channel to her Bollywood stories in the middle of my parents' watching the news, and then lied to the agency about the number of hours she worked. My parents HATED having her there and I could see that they were uncomfortable. So on Wednesdday night after the concert, my father asked me to get rid of her. I heard about all the above shortcomings then and there for the first time.
I don't know what more I can do now. I notified another agency that provides free help a couple of times a week and got my parents bumped up to a higher level of assistance since they no longer have a live-in. Then I got the ball rolling for one of those lifeline gadgets, but my father has to get a script from his doctor before veterans affairs will pick up the cost. I took my mom to her hair appointment this morning, made a series of standing appointments for her and arranged for taxi vouchers.
Then Ted and I went out for lunch to a little French bistro, I ordered their quiche and salad, and it was awful! So I'm home now sucking on tic tacs trying to get rid of the taste of the worst vinaigrette I have ever had. And the crust was soggy. The rest of the day can only get better, lol.
Jess, it's a busy time with little kids in the summer, isn't it? Enjoy it while they're young and dependent on you because before you know it, they'll be on the other side of the globe worrying you half to death!
Well, that girl DEFINELY needed to go! What a disappointment...
I swear, KaeEll, we should get on the phone together, and compare notes! Not only did my sister and I go through all the nonsense with our grandparents, but my husband and I went through it all over again with HIS parents.
I can remember what I've posted (senility), but I may have talked about the "Caspar the Friendly Ghost" experience I had with the staffing agency for my father-in-law's care. I can laugh about it now, but I was furious at the time!
I'm sorry about the soggy quiche. Hang in there, kiddo!...
