That nasty heat wave finally broke overnight and we have the windows wide open, AC off. So now I can do the laundry that I've piled up in compliance with the city's request to conserve power. All the grocery stores dimmed lights and turned up the AC temperature which was kind of weird, but under the circumatances, a good thing.
Ted's off at the Farmers' Market and dry cleaners, I'm still in my jammies but have been up for 4 hours. Lazy day!
Tomorrow we're having what's left of the family (in town) over for a bbq - sausages, chicken, corn on the cob and salads. No idea yet what to do for dessert, but it'll be something easy. Oh! I'll call Ted and ask him to bring home a couple of the fruit pies from the market. At $9 a pop, they're a bargain, comsidering the amount of work the farmers' wives put into making them.
So far, no mention of going down to the lakeshore to watch the Caribbana parade....keeping fingers crossed (sneaky sly smile).
Oh, I love lazy days, and a warm, fruit pie sounds delish right now!
Unfortunately, I can't have either, today, LOL. I've gotten some boxes, and I plan to do a lot of packing this afternoon. Plus, My grandparents are driving in to see me and Jackson, so we'll be spending the night at Donnie's house tonight. I don't want to do that, but oh well.
hello ladies, and boys. Today is a easy day, just trying to get good and organized for our drive. We take off monday. So after Monday I will be on little to none until the weekend but my cell is still good for anyone who feels like calling to check on us.. Hey Kae, heres an easy cheesecake recipe for ya
just use a store bought crust, take a block of cream cheese and a can of sweetened condensed milk..mix together. Then add a 1/3 cup of lemon juice mix again and poor into crust. It shouldnt need more then 20 minutes to set up. And you can put whatever you want on top. Ive done it with honey drizzled on top and its great...easy dessert.
There's only the one size here, I think, of Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk. I'll do it!! Thanks a ton, Shelly! I couldn't reach Ted on the phone at the market, so no pies. Cheesecake it'll be! We did get a couple of boxes of blueberries, so I'll dust them with fruit sugar for the topping. Yummy.
P.S. Why do guys put their phones on vibrate, stick them in their pockets, then ignore them? Drives me nuts.
that sounds good with the blueberries. And you dont have to tell people how easy it was. We are celebrating my sisters 30th birthday today (she is in denile) and I may do one for her too
Quick question about the cheesecake before I run to the Dominion store - what kind of crust, Shelly? Can I use a frozen pastry crust or the graham cracker kind?
I normally use graham cracker crusts with cheesecake, but a pastry crust could be delicious too. However, you would probably have to bake the pasty crust first, wouldn't you? If you want to cut down on time, just get the already-made graham cracker crust that's in the aluminium pie tin!

Oh yes, baking the crust first would be a good idea, LOL. I'll buy the graham wafer crust - less fiddling around with bean weights and such, non? I'm so darn lazy this summer.
sorry I didnt get here til you are probably already home from the store but Moore is right. Get one that is already done, the graham cracker ones are best. Though I bet tthe chocolate ones are good too. Lemme know how you like it
