Well here we are, in the middle of another week. I am going to get ready for work in a few minutes. I had a computer free weekend. I did not turn the sucker on, and instead spent time working outside on Sunday after the weather finally broke, and we had a glorious day with temperatures in the high 70's.
I worked from home yesterday, and managed to accomplish a significant amount of work. Today is my favorite boss' last day, after that all hell breaks loose, with way to much work to be done with an already bare bones staff. We have temporary staff coming on board, to help with some of the project work, I am not really sure how that is going to go, we shall see....
I'm stuck home all day until the appliance repairman shows up to replace the gas valve in the stove, that is if they have one in stock. Still, he'll have to come take a look at it first, of course, and charge me $35 for the pleasure.
In the meantime, I have to sort through a muddle of insurance my father handed over to me yesterday, and the $5000 bill he got from my mother's hospital stay. I'm "really" looking forward to those phone calls.
Otherwise, nothing special. Tony's in NYC all week, Mike's still in Berlin, Nick's in Saigon. Our friends from Westchester County, NY, are coming for a visit soon and that's always so much fun. He's an old college roommate of Ted's and a prof at Fordham, she's a sociology prof at Pace. They usually keep us in stitches with hilarious tales from school and family, and I really need some good laughs and hugs these days.
And finally, some rain has been promised. I managed my sneaky lawn watering very well overnight. Guess the nutcase from up the street didn't walk his dog this way last night.
Argh! The repairman just left and I need to buy a new stove. Input, please??
Home Depot has gas ranges from $999 to $2599, Sears has Kenmore gas ranges from $699 to $1400. The repairman, a super nice man, suggested either GE or Kenmore, and NOT any of the fancy-shmancy computerised models because when they conk, it costs a fortune.
GE and Kenmore come out on top in Consumer Reports. Also said to stay away from the pro-style ranges, stick with basic models. There are so many little add ons, but when I think of my cooking style, which is pretty basic and uncomplicated, I think I'll go with the Kenmore from Sears with an added warranty for 5 years.
The repair bill for the double valve would have been $550, and I've already had a $400 ignition switch replaced not long ago. So this is turning into a no-brainer.
