I have been watching, I was a little weery of her on the first day when she defended Michael Vick...but so far she is great. And at first I thought that it may be trouble that she is such a big name but I think that helps with celebs that they get on...I dont think there have been many big stars that she wasnt in a movie with.
Im liking her today, she is holding her own in the political debate which as the election nears will be a good thing
I'm loving Whoopi, and her presence has brought me back to watching The View. She is able to express her opinions with confidence without being abrasive.
I think that it was a great decision to bring her on, and really gives the show some star power!
By the way, she explained that she wasn't supporting Vick, but only trying to understand how the culture he was raised in factored into what he did. She's a real animal lover, so I don't think that she was supporting him, and said very definitively that she didn't intend to defend him.
Thank heavens! THAT would have made me switch the show off again...

Yeah, I watched the show and I do recall her saying that she didnt mean to excuse his actions. But I know she did cause a little bit of uproar in sport fans...
I watched her today and really did enjoy her. She is definitely great replacement for both Meredith and Rosie....Cant wait to see who will have the next seat
I heard that it's going to be Sherri Shepherd which would be just fine with me. She's done guest hosting on The View in the past, and I thought that she did a good job. I like her in general too... She's quite funny.
If she gets the job, I think that it would make a nice balance on that show. I'm just glad that Rosie's gone. She was a disaster!

whoopi has replaced rosie/merideth. sherry will be replacing star jones. that's what i've read at any rate.
i like whoopi a lot, but found her comments about vick offensive. her making it a cultural issue made me ill. so it's okay to do drugs, drive by shootings b/c that's what you grew up w/in your *hood*? total hogwash.

From what I understand, Whoopi wasn't excusing Vick's behavior by saying that it was cultural. I think that she meant that he didn't "get" that it was immoral to use animals in this way because it's what he'd grown up with. Her point was that all of the publicity, and legal actions taken against him caused him to realize that the bulk of Americans disapprove of this horrible stuff, and that it's NOT "normal" to use animals for fighting purposes, and to abuse them.
I didn't see her entire original comments on her first day (only edited clips), but saw her explanation. A lot of people apparently thought that she was excusing it, but I understood her explanation... Whoopie is a very intelligent woman, and I think that she was simply trying to probe a bit more deeply into that entire culture -- which she agrees is wrong -- to figure out why this otherwise very successful man would participate in such behavior.
Anyway, that's the way that I understood her comments to be.
