Well, I had my second anaphylactic shock reaction in a month today. The hospital is up the road from work, so I just used my inhaler, took the epi-pen, and had my co-worker drive me down the road. It is actually much quicker than waiting for an ambulance. The last time they nearly killed me before they pulled out of the parking lot at work.
My latest allergy is to really bad overpowering perfume. I went to an asthma and allergy specialist, and it is an environmental allergy, that there is nothing that can really be done for it.
The building that I work in was built in the 1930's, and the ventilation system is not very good, and the company is not willing to send out an email asking employees to go light on the fragrance. I keep on getting caught in the stairwell of the parking garage, and in one specific area of the building.
Everyone around me is great, and I just have to play it very careful. The inhaler had been working great up until today, when six puffs did not do it and I had to go see the doctors. Funny enough I am not having problems like this anywhere else.
Did I mention that I work for a health insurance company, who's motto is "no one does more to keep our members healthy..." I will not tell you what I think of them and their attitude towards the employees.
The countdown is on, and I am working from home tomorrow. I'm off to take some more of my drugs and fall into a benadryll sleep. I'm also on steriods, my inhaler, pepcid and I have a nice new epi pen.
Oh how scary...Thank goodness you are prepared for something like this. And thank goodness you got to the docs in time...My thoughts are with you, and YAH for the countdown
Holy crap! That is so crap that you employer refuse to help to accomodate your sensitive allergies. Jeez. Assholes. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
I start my new job on October 3rd! I actually told my boss that had I not already given my notice they would have received it yesterday. Having had multiple departures in the back of an ambulance from work definitely weighed in on my decision to seek alternate employment!
I will basically be doing the same job as I currently have, with more responsibility, and I will have my own team of developers. There is also a $31.00 per hour raise with the new job. I am going back into contracting and getting paid by the hour, instead of being salaried. It's a one year contract, and it is contract to hire.
I feel like I have more control over my career being a contractor, and that it is easier to stay up on technology. for those of us in information technology, if we do not stay current with technology, we basically find ourselves funtionally obsoleted out of the work force, and since I have another 15+ years of working, I need to make sure I stay current, and keep my income level up. I want to try to pay off my house in the next couple of years, and now that my daughter is out of college, that is a definite possibility. Having her in college was like having two additional mortgages.
I'm wide awake and wired from the darn steriods, the benadryll is not making me in the least bit sleepy, and since I have to get up at 4 am, this could be a problem. ARGH! I never suffer from insomnia, this is frustrating! I'm also constantly hungry. I've already made plans to go out for chinese food tomorrow at lunch, and I have already had bowls of both of the types of ice cream I have in the freezer, and I'm bumming that I am all out of my mint chocolate chip ice cream. I need to get off the steriods in the next few days. I'm already up five pounds, but I'm sure it's just water weight, and nothing to do with my constant eating for the last couple of days..... sigh....
