I'm exhausted - we were up at 6, over at my son' s by 6:20 and just got home a few miinutes ago. I came back home with Vanessa for an hour mid-afternoon for the doggies but forgot the diaper bag and had to shoot right back over to Tony's house.
Karin's (my d-i-l's name is the same as mine but for one letter and pronunciation - I am "care-in" and she is "car-in") labour lasted 20 minutes! She was 8 cm by the time they arrived at the hospital and the little guy came out, blip - just like that! He hasn't been named yet but they promised to call us by nine with the news.
We were surprised that the mom and baby were sent home 6 hours after the birth. Seems to be the trend now.
Funny thing, you know in IL they won't let you leave the hospital until the baby has been named. We stayed at the hospital for 2 days after Aiden was born, but that was partially because of the weather too lol.
yeah they made us stay 2 days, but since Jolene was born at like 8 at night it was more like 3 days. Kae was Karin able to have the VBAC or was that someone else?
Actually, I was rather terrified that something similar might happen to me with our third baby. My first labor was 21 hours, my second one was only 5 hours (significant difference), and I remembered that my mother's labor with me was only SEVEN minutes!
My mother was already in the hospital because she was having some problems with the pregnancy. I came so fast that they were barely able to get her wheeled down the hall, and into the delivery room.
Technically, I was her third child, although my parents lost their first baby in the seventh month of pregnancy.
So, given the fact that I was my mother's third child, and arrived in seven minutes, and given the difference between my first and second labors, I was a bit worried about my third delivery! It turned out, however, that the wretched child was a footling breech (tippy-toes down), and she had to be delivered by C-section.
Karen, I'm so glad that your DIL made it to the hospital in time, and that the baby was delivered safely. I'm sure that ALL of you are positively exhausted, but in a good way. I'm really so happy for you...

LOL Moore, I'm the opposite of the norm. Cody came in about 3 hours I got stuck at dialated to 8 and told the nurse finally that before they try a csection i thought i could do it I finally got to 10 and had him naturally.
Bethany was a little stinker. They induced me and I still didn't have her until 3 days later. Aiden was another induction and it took 2 days, but I'm sure it would have been longer if it weren't for the blizzard. See with Beth she came quickly after the doctor broke my water, but he had to do that after the emergency surgery he had to perform. So my water was broken at about 9 and she came at about 1. With Aiden the hospital was completely dead (aside for the maternity ward lol) and no one was about to risk driving to the doctors office so he closed down his office and came up to the hospital and broke my water right after lunch lol. Of course aiden was situated diagonally and got stuck. Once again I couldn't get past 8. The nurse let my epidural dry up, and funny thing is that once they fixed my epidural (the anesthesiologist was wonderful he gave me the strongest pain killers possible for a birthing mother ... he is my hero lol because Aiden was cracking my tailbone with each contraction) I was then able to push even though I was only about 8 and a half. Doc said I got some strong abs to be able to do that. I told him I was just freaking hungry lol.
Good morning! Having babies is quite the experience, non? We've all got our stories to tell!!
Karin (d-i-l) gave birth naturally - the VBAC went as smoothly as possible, notwithstanding the pessimistic ob there. Just when the ob called for the vacuum because Karin was getting too tired for that last push, she found renewed strength and out popped the little guy. I asked her if the labour was difficult and she said that although she was tired, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as she had imagined. She did have the IV for an epidural in place, but there was no time to administer it. Impatient little boy! According to Tony this morning, he's a night owl, lol. I wonder where he gets that? (My son is a notorious night hawk.)
My husband left half an hour ago to accompany Tony and Vanessa to the Doodlebop show at the Hummingbird Centre downtown. Those darn tickets were expensive and obviously Karin wouldn't be using hers. I don't know if you know the Doodlebops, but they're a huge hit here amongst the preschool set. Vanessa has one of their CDs and plays it all the time. I'm kind of relieved Ted said he'd go because I'm not sure I could survive 2 hours of them (the Doodlebops, not my family, lol).
Thanks so very much for all the good wishes. I've got a shampoo and blow-dry for noon, then over to help with the baby and feed the troops. When I get home, I'm turrning on my soap recording and flaking out on the sofa. I think we'll order in tonight, maybe Thai.
For any of you Y&R viewers, I did finally watch it last night, and WOW!! Don't miss it!! CS comes crashing down.
YAH I am so glad that she was able to do the VBAC. I wonder if her OB will be any less skeptic. Anyways, thanks so much for sharing your big joy with us.
SO glad to hear the vbac went well. I went to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with Cody. The other two I had in Springfield at Memorial. Truth is the doctor didn't have much say with the pushing at 8 and a half in DG because for some reason once I get that far a long it's like I can't keep from pushing. That was the problem with Aiden. I got up to 8 and wasn't dilating any further because he was crooked. I had to force myself not to push with the contractions because the darn epidural was empty. If it hadn't been empty I'd have never cracked my tailbone because I woudln't have been pushing ... dumb old nurse Dorcas lol. But yeah at Good Sam, they had me prepped for a C-section the doc had left the room and I told the nurse I felt like I had to push and I coudln't stop the feeling (no epidural with Cody). SHe kinda panicked I think lol she said well try really hard, I tried my best and then I couldn't hold back much longer, so as the poor doctor was walking in she said well here's the doctor I guess you can try to push. SO I did and he literally had to rush with the scalpel to give me and episiotomy. My mom told me last night that the nurse got her head chewed off lol.
