Today is December 7th

It seems strange to me that not everyone remembers what day today is. I guess its because I spent so many years in Hawaii where today is almost a holiday. The events in hawaii on December 7th are amazing..

I never knew much about this day until I saw the movie Pearl Harbour. What a tragedy. I wish History in School had been more interesting. Everyone needs to know about these historic events in the most factual way.

I guess I went to the right school, we learned a lot about December 7th....But now a days the focus is more on 9/11.

And anyone who cares to know about the different major American history events can very easily find information.

Oh, we always remember this day in our household since my husband and I both had fathers who served in WWII.

My father-in-law remained in the service afterwards since he was a career officer in the Air Force. During WWII, he flew missions in Europe. My own father was exempt from serving but was so determined to do his part that he went from service to service until he was finally able to join up. He ended up serving as an officer on a carrier in the Pacific.

I guess between the two, they pretty much had the world covered! My father-in-law was fighting Hilter from the skies, and my father was fighting the Japanese in the middle of the Pacific ocean. He survived a major typhoon too when ships were being lost all around him!

In any event, both my husband and I grew up hearing Pearl Harbor stories. My husband is also closely affiliated with current veterans, and veterans issues, so this date couldn't possibly escape his notice!

My grandfather was in the Marines in WWII and was injured Iwo Jima, taken to a hospital in Guam where he died, before he even got to meet his son (my father) very sad.

Then my father and step father both served in Vietnam

Thus my anti-war sentiments....

Both of my grandfathers served in the Korean and Vietnam War....I guess thus my pro troop sentiments, even if it means supporting what they do too.

Moore its nice to hear that people so far from Hawaii remember it so well. I have been on enough Pearl Harbor tours that there isn't much about the day I don't know. But I lived there for awhile and also worked on the Memorial several times.
