Granted he most likely will be out early, this must be a big victory for animal lovers everywhere. (I'm an animal lover don't get me wrong, but I don't know enough about the guy or the case to render an opinion as of yet)
I agree that it seems too light, though it is better then nothing. Doesn't do much to scare people to stop doing what he was doing though. With such a light punishment whats to stop people from doing it again.
If it were up to me, he would experience much the same pain that those poor dogs suffered. You know, it's bad enough when adult humans fall victim to crimes, but it's much worse when it's helpless, innocent animals, children, or the elderly.
It just makes me sick...

I agree completely Moore, which is why I don't understand why lawmakers tend to be so lax when a crime involves an animal. Around here you just get a slap on the wrist. That's mainly why I'm pleasantly surprised to see that he has to do time.
That piece of sh*t should have been locked up for at least 3 years so he'd have to go to a federal facility where he would likely suffer a similar torture, pretty-boy that he is. *snort*
Oh I love animals! They just don't punish enough for those kind of crimes. I hope this sets some sort of precedence though, that it won't be tolerated!
I often pray to God to save helpless animals, you know! Some people are just evil!
Kae, I totally agree with you. And unfortunately the fact that he got such a small sentence will not likely deter others from doing what he was doing. With a punishment so small no one will care to stop. Sad
Oh yeah no one will stop with the dog fights with such a soft penalty at stake. They stand to gain so much more than they could possibly lose. I think honestly they should strip offenders of dog and cock fighting of their possessions, considering that's why they committed the crime in the first place. Then of course let them go to jail for a nice long sentence to sit and think about it .
Speaking of prison. Does anyone else think that our prison system is well ... crappy?
I can't believe we put so much money into a system that is failing so miserably. I honestly think that if we were to keep criminals from repeat offending we'd save tons on the system. Of course being in the same place as loads of other criminals with little to no resources is just going to worsen the whole issue.
Jess, i agree that our prison system stinks. Though I come from the state of the somewhat famous Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He actually does relatively well at keeping people out of jail. I will look around and see if I can find a article about what he does. It works

Piece of Ch*t.....i had much harsher words in mind...it absolutely turns my stomach the ignorance on levels regarding this case.
i think he was sentenced appropriately. he will do state time....not county. federal guidelines say 12~18 mos & he got 23. if he behaves, which i'm betting he will he'll be out in half that. most people get probation & fines......not even community service.
