The Christmas tree is in the ditch out front and all the decoration boxes are back in the garage for the year. It's on with the new year with holidays behind us, thank goodness! Now if only we could have a little sunshine out there, but hey, it's warming up. I better not get greedy with wishes.
What's up this weekend for you guys? We're just launching into the routine tasks. I'm so relieved to be back into it after nearly a month of craziness.
I did watch my recording of OLTL last night, and uck to the Marcie story. There were a couple of bright moments, but overall, I think I'll stick to Y&R.
Oh, I got my Apples to Apples game yesterday. My friend in Florida (who bought it at Target for me) sent it home with her hub and I picked it up from their housekeeper yesterday afternoon. We haven't opened it yet, but will let you know how we like it.
Kae have you tried Scattegories? It is so much fun. I am oh so addicted to it. Anyways, thats great that you gave the tree the old heave ho. Ours is still up but only because we have only been in our house once since the 22 of December. It will come down real quick though when we get home. Makes me happy that I didn't opt to decorate much.
Vinnie and his mom just went to pick up sausage that was made from the deer they got this past season. Yummo.
Oh, and maybe one of our great mods can come through here and merge these. Though so far Kae its just us. And Tina won't likely pop in for another week.
I'll tell you a creepy story about why I can't stand Christmas decorations up much past NY day. When I was a kid, my mother used to take me visiting to her older brother's house. Uncle Marco was married to a slightly dotty lady named Wanda. They lived at the end of a really long driveway, and over the garages was a large family room with a picture window facing the street. That's where they had the Christmas tree every year.
One year, I must have been about 8 or 9, we went for a visit in April, and there in the window was the tree, decorations still on but 90% of the needles off. It was so depressing. And it was still there in JUNE!! By that time it was a bare carcass, but tinsel, balls and lights still in place. It really creeped me out. Shortly after that Marco hired a full time housekeeper whose first task was to take down the Christmas tree. She hauled it to the end of the driveway, but the garbage pick up for that kind of thing was 6 months earlier and the darn thing sat out there until January of the following year.
Anyway, they never had a Christmas tree after that. I think they went to Florida for the winter because we stopped visiting them until summer time, and then Aunt Wanda passed away. But that memory of a bald tree with tinsel and lights in June has haunted me ever after. Any time I see a tree up after the 12th day of Christmas, or even outdoor decorations, I get crazy. It makes me remember nutty Aunt Wanda and her weird family room. Maybe she did me a favour, lol.
