Wine suggestions, please...

Happy weekend everyone! This is kinda random, but I need a little help. I'm terrible at picking out wine, and always seem to end up with a bottle I don't like.
I'm looking to keep a few bottles of wine at home, so that I can have some whenever the mood strikes.
Do any of you here have a favorite wine? I like both red and white, so I'm open to any suggestion!

Im not big into wine, though I am weird because I love Arbor Mist. And I love Strawberry wine. I think that Kae drinks wine, she may be able to help better then me

My all time fave is a chardonnay from Australia, Black Opal, or a slightly less expensive Oz wine, Lindeman's Bin 65, both oak-y and fruity, with a pear overtone. Yum. Pinot Grigio is good to keep in the house for light meals with a white sauce. It's brighter and goes well with chicken and fish. I think of Pinot Grigio as a summer wine.

Gamay Noir is a beautiful light red that can be sipped with creamy cheese or pasta that doesn't have a heavy marinara sauce. Merlot is a staple to keep in, too, although I don't personally like it, but lots of people do. It's a much more robust wine, heavier and has a touch of fruity taste. Pinot Noir is another staple, medium body. For a light, crisp red, try Chianti. I find it quite astringent, but you might love it.

For a real winter treat, get in a nice super dry sherry (no more than a 3) and pair it with Stilton cheese and Bulgarian crispy flatbread. It's the best appetizer on a cold winter night! I learned that sherry can be both cheap and expensive, and the kind that we like the best is only $7 a bottle! It's Canadian, though, so I doubt you'd find it in Wyoming, but just in case, it's Bright's Pale Dry Select. The Aussies also make a darn good dry sherry called Emu, but it's a little heavier. (In case you're tempted by some of the expensive Tio Pepe's and Bristol Creams, to me they taste like turpentine.)

Hope this helps, Jojo! Moore has been known to have a glass or two of wine, so if she pops by, I'm sure she'll have more recommendations.

Just a funny note - in the wine store the other day, I saw a relatively new product, a white wine from down under again, called....ta dah!! "Cat Piss". Check-out lady said it was flying off the shelves. Go figure.

YEah I'm not the best at choosing either. I do know that I like dessert wine. It's sweeter. Pinot Grigio is good. Is that even wine? Not sure lol.

Pinot Grigio is a white wine, Jess. It's from California and patterned after an Italian white wine, Pinot Gris. It's super popular these days.

Wow, thank you Kae!

I admit, I drink the Arbor Mists from time to time, but I'd like a nice wine to keep in the house, LOL.

I've been hearing lots of good things about Pinot Grigio. As well as Riesling wines?
Kae, I've always passed by the chianti at the store, but always afraid to try it.

I'll check on the wines youve told me about. Who knows, maybe I can have some shipped to me or something...

The Gamay Noir sounds delicious. Is that a common wine?

I can't drink chianti without thinking of Silence of the Lambs. And I would actually love to have a good wine around the house too but we seriously never have any kind of alcohol around the house. I am trying to talk the girls at church into doing a wine tasting thing. Think that would be a fun way to figure out what I like. I hope you have a fun time finding out which ones you like

It's pronounced banya. It is garlic ( a lot of it lol), butter, and anchovies all cooked to a dip like consistency. Then you dip bread, cabbage, mushrooms, shrimp whatever floats your boat in it.

I usually drink red ( the cheap stuff not even sure the brand), it's blackberry merlot.

I also like a semi sweet white, which is harder to find.

Recently I found a German Reisling.

you should google it, I am sure there is something in your area. Almost every state has a winery of some kind, you should be able to find something

Yipes!! Hannibal Lecter's line kind of does ruin the Chianti idea, doesn't it! Now that's all I'll think of. Thanks a heap, Shelly! ;)

Anchovies? YIKES! I'll pass on the bagna, Jess. LOL.

I'll check on the wine tasting, Shelly. In this town though, there are only 2 nice restaurants. Sigh. I hope they have events.
