So I've seen a lot of "news" stories recently that really in the grand scheme don't f'ning matter. For example over the course of the past two days I've seen headlines such as:
Richards to change her name!
When the story is that Denise Richards is going back to Denise Richards after her divorce from Charlie Sheen is complete. Oooo shock gasp.... and yep, gotta love the sensationalism of the headline.
Another one for example:
Pitt related to Barack? Jolie to Clinton?
So apparently if you follow the family lines Angelina Jolie is 9th cousins twice removed from Hilary Clinton and Brad Pitt is a ninth cousin of Barack Obama.... how the hell is that news? Shit, no one here would give a crap to find out, I'm 12th cousins with whatever the hell royalty used to run Silicy was.
So why are these lame ass stories of basically worthless information news? Yeah we must be that bored as a society and that uncaring that we'd rather have lameass entertainment drivle then read about how bad things in Africa are.....

Branny, it's really funny, but my oldest daughter actually sent me an email last night about the Pitt/Jolie/candidate story because she knew that I would be interested in the convoluted lineages. I do a lot of genealogy research, and I thought that the article was fascinating! Loved it... It just proves to me that we're all a lot more closely related to each other than we realize.
And, I would LOVE to know all about your own connections to Sicily, but then -- again -- I'm really into this stuff!
I couldn't care less about Denise Richards though.

Apparently some weird way, I have a small amount of royalty from Sicily way up the chain of the Eversoll tree. So that trickles down and I'm a double digit cousin to whoever is from that line over there.

These pitiful "stories" are in the rags to sell them, and sadly, they do sell. It's not as if people are getting spoon fed articles they can't be bothered reading; they read them because they find them either amusing or interesting. So the question is, what happened to our society that has people more interested in the trivial nonsense going on with celebrities than in the real issues of the planet?
I can't answer for the rest of the continent, but for myself, I need amusement these days. Life is complex and hard sometimes. There's no harm in a daily dose of fun and entertainment, but not the hideous smut that, for example, Lainey is writing about at the moment. THAT I can do without quite nicely, thank you very much.
As for the drivel about lesser "famewhores" trying to keep their names in the papers, good for their agents, lol. They're doing their jobs.
Anyway, after reading some of that filth requiring brain bleach, I'll be treating myself to an hour of "Planet Earth" tonight. Great video from the BBC and CBC. I highly recommend it.
