John McCain is going to be conducting a Town Hall meeting tomorrow at a local boarding school which is the same one my son attended: Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. McCain was also a graduate.
I would be interested in attending, but apparently it isn't even going to be open to school "family", and I'll be hanging that doll exhibit anyway; only current students and faculty will be allowed in, and members of McCain's own graduating class. As far as I know, even our son can't attend which is really too bad since he's still local, and plans to have a career in politics -- although he isn't a McCain supporter. I guess it's only reasonable that they would have to place limits on attendance...
If you see clips of this on the news Tuesday evening, take a closer look! The campus is literally ten minutes from our front door.
(Here's a link to their virtual tour: http://www.episcopalhighschool.org/admissions/tour.html. I miss that campus! It's really an amazing school, and I'm so grateful that our son had that four-year experience.)
Copy of EHS announcement:
March 28, 2008
Dear Parents,
I have just returned from our community meeting, where I announced that Senator John McCain '54 has chosen to visit Episcopal on Tuesday, April 1, to host a town hall meeting and address our student and faculty community on his EHS experience. Senator McCain will not deliver a political "stump speech;" rather, he will reflect on the importance of the School and the faculty to the man he is today. This is one of several speeches he plans to deliver on the formative experiences in his life.
Our hosting this event is not an endorsement of his candidacy; rather, it is a welcoming home of a son of Episcopal High School. Senator McCain will meet first with the Monitors and the Honor Committee, followed by the town hall meeting with the entire student and faculty community. We anticipate that there will be approximately 75 representatives of the press in attendance, so you likely will see some coverage of the event on the evening news.
We recognize that this is a tremendous opportunity for our community, but at the same time a significant responsibility. To ensure that we maintain the proper atmosphere and keep the event manageable, we are not able to extend an invitation to those beyond the immediate student and faculty community. Please understand that it is not our desire to exclude friends of the School, but it is important that we maintain the focus of the occasion.
This will be an exciting and memorable day for our students!
Sincerely,
Rob Hershey Headmaster
