Happy Sunday all! Hope everyone is well. and for those of you who are travelling, I hope that's fun!

Where is Jess? Not working weekends are ya? any news on that house?

Bran, what fun things do you do with the family on weekends?

Tess, did you get all your flooring? That must be alot of lifting

Today Should be a more relaxing day today the house is clean!

I was thinking of all the things I want to get my kids in, but probably can only afford two a year:

Gabi-
ice skating
gymnastics
piano
swimming
tap/jazz

Zach - guitar, karate, soccer, ice skating

Ryan - professional tuba lessons , tennis

My flooring is all in my second bedroom, it has to be in the house for 48 hours before I can install it.

I have had a productive morning! I removed the rug and padding from the hallway. OMG it was disgusting! I thought that I was going to throw-up when I was carrying it out of the house! In the last year of her life, Dutchess would have accidents in the hallway, and even though I thought I had the rug clean, the padding was a different story! I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the wood. I have a fan on it now, and hopefully in the next 24 hours it will dry out very well. I managed to minimize the water soaking in, because I had my hover floor mate out, sucking the dirty water up every few feet.

I will never put rugs into a house again! Even though I have the Dyson animal vacuum, there was still sand underneath it all. It's only 9:30, and I have already taken two showers. I have enough hard wood to do the three bedrooms and the hallway, and next spring the living room, which is huge will have the rug replaced also. The only rug I will ever buy again will be throw rugs, and runners!

I have also removed all of the molding in the hallway! The baseboard is gone, along with the casing around the four doors in the hallway. I am holding off taking the doors down until tomorrow, I think! It is going to look incredible when I am done, I hope! I love the whole nesting concept, although as I was wiping sweat off of my face, I was questioning my sanity! It has been a few years since I have tackled anything like this, I had some dust on tools as I brought them out of the basement.

I have to go get my nails done. They are way to long for this type of work, so I need Henry to give me some active length nails for this week! I'm then going out to dinner with my parents for their anniversary.

How is everyone else today?

Sophia

Tina, if finance is a concern, go for the music lessons. Encourage the kids to join the school and local youth bands - they will thank you for that later. The other things are good, too, but music will open their minds like no other discipline.

Tess, broadloom is disgusting, agreed. Car antifreeze is the only thing that will remove the urine stench from hardwood, but you'll never really be rid of it completely. Good luck with that project.

Today is family dinner day at 5 but Tony will be on his way to a US Coast Guard office in WV for another work week, his wife too daunted to come alone with the children, so just the 6 of us tonight. BBQ'd leg of lamb, salad, roasted potatoes, cake and ice cream. It's a birthday party for the two doggies, both turned 7 a few days ago. Oh!! Tony had his hair all cut off. He had been wearing it long and I loved it, but he finally cut it all off to a short, traditional style. I'm so disappointed, but then again, it's just hair. It grows.

Moore and Shelly are both on the road today, so stay safe! Moore, every time I squirt myself with Verte Violette, I think of you. You ARE a great detective! Thanks again, lol.

Hi all!! Today is just housework for me. And hanging out with this kitten that I still haven't decided if I'm keeping yet.

Tina, it's great you want to get your children involved in activities, just make sure they really want to be involved in the ones you select. My parents signed me up one summer for a local softball team, and I loathed it, and was very angry with them for some time for making me do an activity i absolutely hated.

Sophia, I'm in awe of you work ethic. I'm barely motivated today to clean my house and hang my new curtains, much less do that kind of work!!!

Dinner sounds lovely, Kae! Even though I don't eat lamb, you make it all sound delish!

Good luck to our road warriors today!!!

Yes Kae, I think music is really good. Ryan did guitar lessons and now plays tuba too.

So Zach and Gabi need that for sure and definitely the swimming. I really think she'll like gymnastics, but hate the thought of giving up dance.

I suppose ice skating will have to wait a year or two!

Sophia, OMG I can't believe you are doing all that work. Take it easy! and now I'm worried about my padding (with that new puppy) I use vinegar for the odor. Hard wood floors are sounding like a good option. I'd love to at least have them in my dining room.

Jody, I think you should keep the kitty!

Tina, ballet and figure skating develop different muscles, so if Gabi is serious about the one, the other would have to go.

When I was about 13, my ballet teacher told me to give up the figure skating (I had really earnest teachers, lol) so I gave up the ballet instead. I wasn't talented in either, so in the long run it didn't matter, but that was spelled out really clearly to me. Ballet helps in ice skating for posture, arm positions and grace, but only as an aid. If you think Gabi might want to pursue dance more seriously later on, figure skating won't be a choice, unless it's just for the fun of it.

(I wouldn't let my kids learn to skate. I was afraid they'd want to take up hockey.)

I haven't decided on the cat. It's cute enought, but tomorrow, I'm going to do some digging. If my apartment lets me keep it is the number one thing. When I moved in, since they didn't put new carpet in, or clean the current carpet, the lady told me we could do a pet addendum where I can have pets.
But, I need to research the cost of shots, and then see about getting the thing licensed with the city as required. Plus, there's a lot of upkeep with animals, and this one is a kitten so it's rather playful and loves my laptop, wii, and computer cords. Grrrrr.

However, I will give it a little credit--it took to the litter box on the first night.

You're so lucky the kitten took to the litter box! I think I am making progress with the puppy

kae, I wouldn't do figure skating, I just want her to learn how to skate

I really think gymnastics will be her thing

and she loves to sing, so down the line perhaps voice lessons...

Ryan did hockey for a while, now he loves to roller blade.

Zach would probably be good at football, but that I won't allow! If baseball hadn't gotten so expensive around here, I would do that. Crazy what they charge these days

When I was a kid you paid about $10 and got a nice tshirt and everything!

I am going to get Jolene into ballet when we get back from Phoenix. She has a couple of girl friends at church who are taking the class and as an only child I am always trying to get her into more things that involve other kids. She really liked swimming and I will sign her up for another class when we get back.

I was actually on the road all day Saturday. Traffic going down to Baltimore was horrendous. First i got stuck in NYC because some idiot decided it was a good idea to shut the bottom part of the George Washington Bridge on a Saturday. So you had like 8 lanes of bridge trying to drive in 4. Then I got stuck in New Jersey from all the people going to the shore, then in Delaware and MD I had the same problem. So my GPS said I should have been in Baltimore just before noon and I didn't get there until after 2. Ugh. So we didn't get home until after 11 Saturday night. Long day on the road.

Yesterday was catch up day and try and get things ready for our next trip. My niece is here so Jolene is in high heaven.

Today I am back at work but as of now there is no work to do . Ugh

Tess, that's quite an undertaking! I know what you mean about the carpets, though.

When we bought our house a gazillion years ago, I put down wall-to-wall carpet, even though we had nice wood floors throughout. Over time, I realized that they were a headache! I began renting steam cleaners about four times a year to get all the junk out (and it's disgusting; you DON'T realize how much is in there), but the edges that met with the walls never would get totally clean.

At some point, I realized that our wood floors were actually VALUABLE! Newer houses were offering them as an option, not as a basic. So, when it came time to take up the carpets, I began putting down rugs instead....

And you're right about the padding. Little doggies' accidents go all the way through, and you really have to work hard at sucking ALL of the moisture out, although that's next to impossible to do.

By the way, I bought a Dyson about a year ago, and I LOVE not having to deal with those bags anymore. It's SO convenient to detach the recepticle from the rest of the Dyson, with a click of a button, carry the thing over to the trash, and empty the contents with another click of a button. YAY...!!!
