Hey all, it's rainy here. I don't mind, I like a gray day sometimes. Although our yard is getting rather soggy. We have a major drainage issue as well as our neighbors.
anyway, getting ready for the big party.
Ed's getting some help for the party the day of, so I am glad for that. It was supposed to be for me, and I was supposed to just relax and get my nails done. Ya right. I've been doing all the work so far, because he has no clue how to throw a party!
Well he used to throw parties ages ago, you know the keg the pizza and there ya have it!
I was ready to kill him yesterday when the puppy threw up in my van. I am a neat freak and puke does not make me happy!
We're going camping again, I might hit an outdoorsy store and see what could make the experience better this time around. Hope our tent holds up!
Animals can get car sick just like people can. He's just a little puppy, so hopefully he'll outgrow that. Or he may have eaten something that he shouldn't have, and you'll never know what it was!
Little accidents happen with pets.

Liquid Gravol, Tina! Just the teensiest bit dropped into puppy's mouth and car rides will be barf-free. And little puppy will sleep for the ride to boot. I had one poodle, the one I got in Berkley when we lived in the Bay area, that was a real barfer. But once I started giving her dramamine, I was able to smuggle her on to plane rides back and forth to Toronto. She'd just sit on my lap under a blanket and nobody ever knew she was there, not even the stewards. Of course, we can't do THAT any more, but just as an illustration....
It's been rainy here too. We got about 3 inches of it yesterday, and so far, no water in the house. Yeah!!
When is the big party? Is your birthday not in August? I hope it's being catered so you won't have THAT on your mind as well as everything else that goes along with having a houseful. I'd strongly recommend getting an extra helper, one more than the caterer suggests, for nipping around gathering up napkins and glasses left all over the place. And be sure the party rental people will take back dirty plates and glasses so all you need to do is pile them up in the crates, leave them on the back porch for pick up the next day. Nothing takes the joy of entertaining away more than a huge mess to be dealt with in the aftermath.
Thanks for the tip for the puppy car sickness, I think that's what it was, but it was so gross!
we are not having the party catered - way to expensive. My mom is doing beef, my dad is making a tray of pasta, I'm going to bake some italian sausage with peppers, and order chicken. For sides: cole slaw, potato salad, cottage cheese, baked beans, I'm making a cucumber salad, anyone getting hungry? Oh and we might order some cheese pizzas for the kids
I'll do two appetizer trays, and buy one at the wholesale club. Plus chips and dips.
Some people are bringing a dish.
I hate the whole idea though! I have to clean the house and finish up some little minor repairs, hard with the puppy right now, and I'm completely stressed out already.
It's on August 2, can't wait for it to be over! I just wanted him to take me to Boston for the weekend.
I'm sorry I made that assumption, Tina. It's just that it's YOUR birthday, so I thought the idea would be for you to sit back and enjoy it all. With you having to think about the menu, the presentation, the glasses and plates, cutlery, and where people are going to sit down to eat, and what with beef, all will need knives, so lap eating is difficult..... . (Yes, I did a lot of catering in another life.)
BTW, placing the bar at the farthest end of the garden is a great way to keep people from clumping in the middle of everything. You could put the bar in the garbage shed and guests would still gather around it, lol. Never put the bar (or where ever you serve the beverages) in the kitchen unless you want that place to be the hub of everything. Trust me. Just buy several bags of ice and nestle the bottles inside buckets of it, stick them all on a table, and it's an instant bar. We've even used camping coolers for the same purpose.
And your menu sounds delicious! How many people do you expect?
yeah we've got some bucket things for drinks, hard liquor in the house. The kitchen is fine with me, I'm going to keep the appetizers in there, just in case its horribly hot
we just did a graduation party last year, so I've got it all down pat
we'll probably get around 100 people - Hopefully not more
It's not so fancy I worry about glasses. We use plastic cups, plastic plates and plastic cutlery. We serve the food in our garage on two large tables and I plug in some roasters to keep food warm. People can circle the tables like a buffet. I wish I had a picture from last year. We painted our garage, it looks like a regular room and we put long rugs on the floor and we have a fridge out there....
we'll have a tent on our front lawn (with about 8 tables that seat 8 each), cuz our backyard is sloped. We have room for 16 on the back patio too.
and we'll put 3 tables in the basement, especially if its horribly hot.
I get all nervous and grumpy, but mostly our parties go well. I just never get a chance to sit down or really talk to anyone, ya know!
