I'm checking in briefly. Jim is scooting over to the Carolina Club for some final preparations before his presentation tonight. I'll have a few hours to explore this gorgeous inn, and soak up the sunshine and campus atmosphere. The Carolina Inn is smack in the middle of the University of North Carolina campus at Chapel Hill. The students are back, and I watched a few head off to class with their backpacks, as I gazed out the window at this magnificent North Carolina morning, and sipped my coffee.
I brought my needlepoint, so I may go off in search of some nice little corner in the inn, or a nice garden spot to do some stitching.
I got here later than I had planned to yesterday, and had to rush because we had 7:30 pm dinner reservations here at the inn, and I was going to be meeting several people for the first time. Loren wasn't able to join us after all because he had rehearsals, but our daughter came anyway. I had intended to put my feet up for about fifteen minutes after the long drive, then put myself together, in an effort to look presentable! Our daughter decided to come directly from work, and change here since Loren wasn't coming and going home to change would have been in the opposite direction. She swooped in, took a quick shower, then hogged the mirror for makeup purposes. By the time I got into the bathroom, it was all steamed up, hot, and the countertop was strewn with daughter's stuff! Argh...
No chance for the little rest either.
But, we had a WONDERFUL time, lots of laughs, and exquisite food.
KaeEll, Lucy got to the vet okay, but wasn't happy with me at all. I felt like Judas!
I'm providing a couple of links. The first one is for Jim's little event tonight, and the second one is for the Carolina Inn. It looks, at first glance, like a small little colonial facility, but don't be fooled. This place is huge!
If you take the virtual tour, and go to each category, you'll get a good idea of what it looks like. Also, check out the menus! My morning began with two large southern biscuits in sausage gravy, with two eggs, over easy. YUM!!!
Wow moore, it sounds like you are having a nice little weekend away. Will you guys stay down the whole weekend?
I will keep the name of that Inn in mind. I really do want to visit NC one of these days. Still hoping that our next home is down in VA so that the trip to NC won't be so long. Its sounding more and more though like we will be staying in CT. I told Vinnie if we stay here I am not buying a house.
Try and get some scenery pictures for me. I bet the campus looks beautiful.
Shelly, I'll try to get some pictures for you! I wish that we could stay the entire weekend, but we're going back home tomorrow...
Jim and I were very surprised when our oldest daughter decided to stay here, after her college graduation. She loved Catawba, a beautiful, small college in Salisbury (about two hours south of Raleigh), but we assumed that after four years, she would want to come home. Now I see why she wanted to stay!
I'm so glad that she chose the Raleigh area instead of Charlotte which is apparently kind of an urban mess! I haven't been there myself, but I understand that the traffic is bad, and that it doesn't have the charm this area does. I think that nine times out of ten, college towns have much more charm to offer anyway.
I hope you'll make it to Virginia one of these days. I'm still a Virginia girl at heart, but I also have deep roots in North Carolina (as my genealogy research has informed me), on both sides of my family.
Brandon, we're all holding out good thoughts for that job!

Have a wonderful evening, Moore! All of it looks so interesting and luxurious. Jim will be a smashing success. Looking forward to a full report when you're back home and Lucy is in her rightful perch in the living room.
Safe drive home!
Brandon, so how did the interview go?
Shelly and Jess both having telephone issues. How coincidental is that??
