What a nippy morning here. I had to break my resolve not to turn on the furnace until November 1st and flipped the switch to "heat" the minute we got up. I think it's 5 degrees or something. Brrr.
Did you watch the VP debate last night? Goshdarnit, you betcha we did. (It wasn't my choice but hub's a junkie.) Thoughts?
We've got 2 birthdays this weekend, so all are coming here for dinner tomorrow to celebrate them at once. I'm thinking of ordering in. I woke up this morning with a really sore throat and stuffy head, thanks to baby sitting yesterday and the germs little kids drag home from school. Just the thought of cooking for 10 when I'm not feeling fabulous makes me queasy. Chinese, Indian or Thai, haven't decided yet. And cake.
Yum...Indian. I wish Vinnie was more adventurous. I love Indian food. And we have a great little place here in Groton too that I have wanted to try since we moved here. Oh well, he goes to sea, I go to eat.
Anyways, its chilly down here as well. I am not looking forward to this winter if it is already as cold as it is. Ugh...I didn't watch the VP. I got done watching a couple sitcoms and then watched my Lipstick Jungle from Wednesday night. Then I went to bed. The good thing about being pregnant is that as an insomniac its weird to actually get so tired that I have to sleep.
I have a long Friday today because of my two doctors appts earlier this week. I am bored but with work to do so I better get cracking
Oh, absolutely we watched the debates last night. It was our son's night to come over for dinner (pot roast and lemon bars). He's deeply involved not only in this election, but in politics in general. He had a double major in political science, and mass communications, and fully intends to run for office one day, so ... yes ... we watched!
We normally watch ABC, but our son likes CNN. The thing that bothered me about that channel was that they had the real-time feedback chart below the candidates as they were debating, to indicate how they were doing. I didn't like that at all. However, given the chart flow, it looked pretty much even.
I don't think that Sarah Palin made any huge mistakes, but I realized that I've already become tired of her "folksy" mannerisms. And she WINKED TWICE!! Oh... I had to put a pillow over my head. I don't want my VP winking at me.
As far as their answers were concerned, I think that it was even. There were a couple of questions that NEITHER of them ever actually answered, but just went off on in different directions to get their points out. At least in this debate, as opposed the McCain's and Obama's, they looked at each other occasionally, and addressed the other person directly.
I did like Biden's point at the end (when he broke down a bit) that he also knows what it's like to be a single parent, so it's not just a female issue, and Palin doesn't necessarily have the edge of that kind of understanding of the public just because she's female, and was a hockey mom.
I don't know... It's going to be an interesting election, and I'm still watching both candidates very closely.
KaeEll -- are you brave enough to try the roulage for one of those birthdays?
It's been very chilly down here too (love it), and we kind-of have the heat on. You know we had to get that new furnace, air conditioner, and thermostat in June, after the flood in the basement. This new thermostat allows us to pick a temperature, and whatever needs to be turned on, air conditioner or furnace, in order to maintain that temperature, that's what happens. It's a really quiet system, so I'm not always aware of which one is on, but I'm pretty sure that the furnace has kicked in a little bit lately.
I just love this time of year!

Not this time, Moore, but I will soon. I'm just going to order a cake from the bakery today. I've got my mother's backs and forths to deal with today, Mike's coming home from WV tonight and I want to have a little something special for him as today is his birthday, and I don't feel great. Yesterday I was with my little ones until 7:30, came home, cooked shepherd's pie and didn't get out of the kitchen until a couple of minutes before the debate started.
Yeah, I'm a bit tired of the homespun folksiness too. You betcha. It was a little refreshing for a bit, but enough already. We have a federal election here too, on October 14, so political debates are all over the place on TV, the radio stations, the papers. Gah.
Shelly, Indian it is, then! We love it too, all of us, except my father who only likes roast beef and Yorkshire pud with gravy and roasted veg. I catered to him all summer long and it's not his birthday, lol. Butter chicken, curried seafood, vegetable samosas, buryani...yum.
Ack - I have to scoot. I'll run Y&R when I'm back later on this aft.
I'm not familiar with Leonardtown, Shelly, but I looked it up, and I think that it looks charming. And, it's on the water! It also isn't where I thought it was; I'd assumed that it was near Annapolis, but it's in a totally different direction.
Yeah, I am actually looking for a hotel there. But I don't know the area well enough to know what is far from the walking site. I am just going to call the coordinator and see if she can give me the number for a Days Inn or something
