The Apache Trail!! (videos)

I did it!!

Okay, there are two parts (1 and 2...duh...), so please DO start with Part 1. LOL.

The videos CAN be viewed in full screen, but I have to say that their quality suffers (from compressing it, and reformatting it, etc.), although you can get an idea of what the roads are like. I suggest that you watch FIRST in the smaller version, and IF you're interested in seeing better quality, I can have Jim burn you a CD, and mail it to you!

You have to be invited to view these, so you'll be getting an email from Vimeo. Hopefully, it won't go to your spam folder. KaeEll and Shelly have already expressed interest, so I'm going to go ahead and send them an invitation. If anyone else wants an invitation, please let me know!

Jim is driving, and AD is filming. There are places where there are "guard rails" (HA) made out of flimsy wood, but others where the road is very narrow, with steep drops. You'll see that there are portions of the road where cars need to pass, and that means one line of cars have to pull into the rocks while the oncoming cars drive by. Towards the end of the first video, one idiot passes Jim and the car in front of him, much to the outrage of the guy in the car in front of Jim. You can't hear it very well, but he yells at the passing car, twice, which cracks up Jim and AD.

Enjoy.

Will await the invitation, Moore! So far today my only false spam was an order confirmation from Robeez for the cutest little winter boots for Quentin's 1st birthday this Saturday. The young moms here will know what that is. :)

I will keep an eye on the spam folder...Thanks for sending it. I am intrigued to see it. I am so happy that A-D and Jim are having such a great time.

Kae has it already been a year? Wow..

Yeah, I think that watching it NOT in full screen is the better idea, and even that quality has suffered a bit from the original. There's more to come too, because they turned around, and went back the same way!

Also, you might want to turn your sound all the way up, so you can hear that one irate guy calling the other one an idiot! LOL...

I think that you'll have to "join" Vimeo, but that's a nothing...

I think that I may have fixed what needed fixing!

DO NOT DRIVE THIS ROAD AT NIGHT!!

Watch in smaller screen version for slightly better quality, and turn your sound all the way up. (Jim and AD were speaking softly, out of respect for the landscape, I guess, or out of fear of falling off the side of the road! Let me know if it still doesn't work.

I am usually really good about driving and all that. But I don't think I will ever be taking that drive. That is a LONG way down

Gah!! That was wonderful, Moore.

Did Jim and A-D take the "hard road" back to town or did they get to the bottom and return UP the trail? It sounded like Jim was a little reticent to make the drive back to the vista point for photos. I laughed out loud when he asked A-D if she thought she'd be having this much fun that afternoon.

Don't take that road at night? Are you kidding me??? I wouldn't take that road unless I was comatose.

I've been gone ALL day long, so I'm just seeing your posts. I'm SO glad that you were FINALLY able to access those (bad word) videos!

KaeEll, they turned around and went back up the trail. I should have more videos (hopefully) on that leg too. Unfortunately, those videos were saved to the camera, and not on a chip, and the camera has an attachment that was left in NC, so Jim wasn't able to download them when he did the others. Our daughter sent the small cable up here, so we should have them soon. It doesn't matter anyway because I can't post anything new until after next Tuesday. I have to earn megabites on this site, and won't have them until then.

I think that Jim had wanted to see another lake (they saw Apache Lake, and, oh it just went out of my head, but I have stills), but was happy to turn around too. I'm sorry that the quality wasn't better overall, and that you didn't get to have the full screen experience. I held my breath the whole time when I watched the original on my computer.

Glad you enjoyed it, though! Were you able to hear the guy in front of our car yell at the idiot in the red SUV? Too funny... "Idiot!" ......... "You're an idiot!"

Shelly, I thought that this might be the only way that you would see that portion of your beloved Arizona! That's one reason why I wanted so much to post those.

Oh yes, I heard the angry man in the Lexus have at it to the poor sod in the red truck. He was a little more expressive than "you're an idiot", lol.

You are right Moore, even if given the chance now that I know what the road looks like I would have to pass. Though going up along the inside wall wouldn't be as bad as going down along the cliff side

Even the inside wall portion of the road presents it's challenges. The road apparently has some ruts along that side (Jim references them once, but it was a little hard to hear) which causes drivers to move towards the middle of the road. Also, there are falling rocks!

I think that KaeEll had the right idea about doing it in a comatose condition! LOL... I'm going to post some still shots that are really pretty (a little later), and Jim is going to retrieve the drive back from the camera. I haven't seen that yet myself, but it ought to be interesting since our daughter will be on the passenger side, next to the dropoff!
