OMG! We're gearing up for the siwth to digital .. and all sorts of lovely goodness at work. So we're had to take nodes down for the last few nights. I've been putting in some lovely overtime because of course even though there's a message on the phone systems that we're doing necessary maintenance and everything will be back up soon people still think they have to talk to us and find out if something is wrong.
Of course all cable was down last night because instead of just going all digital like a lot of companies are doing .. and requiring set top boxes for customers, we're going to convert the all digital broadcast into analog for our customers for at least another 3 years. That way if they have an ancient tv that's hooked up just to a cable line with no digital box or tuner in the tv they will be ok .. well .. Almost every call last night was from someone who just had plain ole cable without any digital anything.. they wanted to know why our system was down .. Of course they got evil bitchy when we informed them that we had to take it down to perform maintenance to ensure they will still get their analog cable after the transition this coming February .. Of course they didn't believe us. This one guy told me that if we do it again we're fools. I think he ended up the fool after I told him that if we don't take the system down to do the necessary maintenance he will probably not have a picture on his analog only televisions in his house .. Anywho I'm ranting cuz I'm quite exhausted .. Went in to work at 5pm last night stpped taking calls about 3:30 then had to wait for my supervisor to walk me to the car because we had a fairly valid death thrrat psycho dude call in just before I was set to leave and if the cops had only just been called as i was logging off.
That's why I absolutely hate when Springfield is all down .. taking calls from people who know you're just down the street crazy or drunk as hell can really suck a lot. I haven't gotten any too bad .. one lady said she was calling from our parking lot.. she was a peoria customer though so she was in the lot for a call center that had closed at 5:30.. she did ask why our lights were all off ... very odd .. had to report her anyways though because she said she was planting bombs ....don't make a terror threat 3- seconds after giving your account info!
I think next time things go down we need to work w/cell phone companies and have them schedule something too ... ok that was bad
