Friday

Yesterday was a very weird day for me and last night I think I slept all of about 2 hours, had horrible dreams about cockroaches in the bed and geese running around in the living room. Gah. Hate nights like that. I even woke Ted up at 4 a.m. to ask him if he had seen any signs of mice downstairs and he told me he had found mouse poop in the cupboard where the router for the internet lives and that finished me off completely. I've been up since then. It's my regular Friday routine today.

What's up today?

Yesterday was super quiet in here. I hope that everyone is doing okay. Kae I sure do hope you are able to get in a nap or something today. I hate sleepless nights, sleepless nights filled with gross critters is even worse.

I was just told that the system I work with is being shut down at noon. So I only have until then to get my work done. So I will likely be back after lunch.

Shelly, work like a little Trojan the rest of the morning, lol. Too bad they don't just give everyone the rest of the day off.

Naps never work for me. If I try to grab a little rest mid-day, I'm much worse off than if I just plough along and go to bed early the next night.

I went to see a house for sale yesterday afternoon, one that Ted had seen two summers ago when the builder had an open house for it. He passed by one day out jogging, before he tore the meniscus in his knee and gave up the jogging thing. Anyway, he said that I would love it, HAD to go see it as it's back on the market. So I went, met the realtor at 3.

Good heavens! It was absolutely fantastic, loved everything about it! Then I asked the price. Total deflation. I have no idea why my husband would send me off to see my dream house knowing that it was completely out of our snack bracket. Anyway, I was funked out all day after that. I know he didn't mean for it to depress the heck out of me, but it did.

Then I went to my parents'. Yesterday was my birthday and my father had made a big deal of me going there for tea and cake. I called after the house showing and he said they were on their way out, completely forgot about the invitation. Anyway, I did go over there and walked into a complete mess of Christmas decoration boxes and a disgusting mess of papers and old magazines all over the once beautiful living room. My mother had no idea that it was my birthday. My dad gave me a cheque but he wrote down one number and put different digits in the upper space. *sigh*

I think this is the hardest part of being sandwiched in the middle of 4 generations. I am so emotionally drained by it all.

A belated Happy Birthday, KaeEll. I can't believe every one of us missed it, and our neglect probably didn't help your already-strange day. I'm so sorry, and also sorry about your encounter with your parents. It's no wonder you had nightmares!!

KaeEll, seeing that house would have depressed me too. I'm sure (as you are) that Ted meant well, but men don't always understand women's dreams. Seeing exactly what you want, and then realizing that you can't have it doesn't tend to cheer women up!!

And, I'm with you on the mice. I've had a few unexpected interactions with the little fuzzies, and I do NOT like being surprised that way. Many years ago, I went out to our garage to look for something in a box that we had stored there. I'd been staring down at the contents for about thirty seconds when something that had been perfectly still, to the point where I hadn't even noticed it was there (even though my face was about six inches from the top of the box), suddenly moved.

I'm surprised that you didn't hear my screams all the way up there in Canada...

Kae do you have a nice bottle of wine you could sit with? I sure hope that the men in your family, dad excluded, have a nice dinner planned for you. Did Ted make/buy you a nice dinner last night? I feel so terrible that it wasn't mentioned with us.. Sheesh...And soaps were nothing spectacular yesterday either.

I hate that you had to go see that house not knowing that it was an impossible thing. Did Ted even know how much it was before he sent you over to look?

Well just in case you don't have any or can't just sit down and veg today, here is a glass for you.

You know Kae if you'd just stop watching "Cockroach vs Geese War III" you'd be fine. I told you that movie wasn't good for you.

That does sound like a sucky night. But I submit for your approval, something worst. Imagine if you will having watched the series Supernatural, then had played the part of Fable II where they was a destroyed town filled with banshees, followed by zombie movie.... needless to say a dream in which you're caught trying to save a town from banshees, zombies, and demons from hell not the best of dreams.

Zombies and banshees? Good heavens!! Good reason for me never to watch Supernatural. Eeek.

I don't know why I've been having awful dreams lately but I have. Maybe it's all the stress surrounding Christmas as this year I have to shop for my parents as well and now they want to hold the Christmas Eve dinner. That has been such a disaster the last three years, I just dread it again. When I say no, they get very difficult. I really hope none of you guys ever have to go through this with aged parents who are too old and wobbly to move into an assisted living place. They fight so hard to hold onto their position and can't do it, won't face it, fight me on every step of the way. Every day is like pushing a piece of string with them. It breaks my heart at the same time as it frustrates the hell out of me.

The only piece of advice I could ever give here is HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD. If I had a sibling at least I'd get a modicum of help. (Get busy, Bran. ;) )

I seriously sympathize!

I don't know what in the world I would have done without my sister when we had to close up houses, etc. However, on the OTHER hand, having a sibling can also backfire, as was the case with Jim's sister who was not only NO help with their parents, but really more of an interference!

I said from the time that our three kids were little that I truly hope they're close, and stay close throughout their lives, because they're going to need each other one day. In fact, it's really more important that they be closer to each other than they are to Jim and me, in my opinion! We won't be around forever...

Yeah, get busy, Brandon!

Actually the zombies came from a movie, banshees from Fable 2. Supernatural's not bad. Jodi raves about it, but I think she just has it for Jensen Ackles since he used to be on Days. LOL! Right now they're covering angels and God and how they stack up against the demons and other baddies of the night they covered in the first 3 seasons.

And to both you and apparently my other internet mommy Moore over there, no I will not get busy. One is fine for now, and that's all I need. smile.gif

Geez, KaeEll -- Brandon must be our "difficult" child. He refuses to eat our hummus, and he doesn't like our suggestion that he expand his family.

How's a cyber mom supposed to successfully interfere?!

LOL, Moore. No one ever listens to us! Here we are with all this wisdom and it's pearls before swine, lol.

That's very sweet of you, Shelly. I'm sure there will be days when you'd gladly lend one of yours to Brandon.

And Moore, so right about the children being close to one another, more so than with the parents, if there's to be a toss-up.

Well I don't know about my other siblings. But my sister and I are seriously like best friends. And we are equally as close to my mom. So someone did something right there.
