I'm on an email list for a Washington, DC restaurant (Tuscana West), so I was just reminded that Valentine's Day is coming up.
I think that I might mention this idea to Jim because the menu looks really good, and reasonably priced for the occasion. (Here we go with a discussion of food again!)
It's worth it to visit their website, just to listen to "O Mio Babbino Caro". Beautiful.
I'll have the artichoke salad and the sea bass. YUM!! And I'd wash it all down with one of those fantastic light Italian white wines, but you didn't post the wine list, Moore. :(
Then again, that veal dish looks wonderful but the sauce may be a bit heavy for me with 20 year old port. It would be really good with a nice medium weight red with a cherry and chocolate end taste.
I've had some really awful risottos at fancy scmancy Italian restaurants, so I stay away from those but I love it. My friend Lisa makes a fantastic one but she has to stand over the stove forever stirring and adding, and of COURSE, she has no recipe or I'd have wrested it from her years ago.
Well, I don't know what I'm having, and if I don't hurry up and tell Jim that I want to go, we may not be able to get reservations!
Having said that, I'll probably have the artichokes, the Chateaubriand, and the chocolate souffle. Or maybe the veal. Or the bass... Of course, the pear might make a nice dessert. Hmmm...
Here's what my email said about the two-day Valentine's Day special:

If you watch Hell's Kitchen, you know that Chef Ramsey has a thing about risotto. He spit some out last night! LOL... The would-be chef had thought she was using salt when she was actually using sugar. Can you imagine what risotto with sugar in it tastes like?! (gags)
I haven't been to this particular restaurant yet. It's downtown, and not far from Jim's office. He's eaten there several times for lunch, and really likes it.
Anyway, you're welcome to come. If we're still able to get reservations, that is...

We had our Valentine's dinner at Tuscana, and it was very nice. I ordered exactly what I said I would, and KaeEll, Jim had the veal. He gave me a taste, and it was delicious! Next time, I'm having that.
It was really cold tonight, and (as usual) Jim and I drove separately. Jim got there ahead of me, and we both used valet parking. Jim's car was parked safely right in front of the restaurant where everyone could watch it. They lost mine!! No seriously... We waited about twenty minutes for them to figure out what they'd done with my car because they'd switched tickets.
Once they'd finally retrieved my transportation home, I decided to take a little nightime tour by myself. The city was very quiet, and all lit up. No traffic. I hadn't been downtown at night in a very long time, so I drove around the monuments, gazed at The White House, admired the tidal basin, and finally went home. Lovely...
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone, and I hope it was a good one.

We had veal last night too!! Veal Piccata with roasted veggies and some delicious, oaky, pear-y Australian Chardonnay. After dinner we watched Sherlock Holmes (on WNED) and all night long I dreamt I was back in the 1800's riding around in a Hansom cab, lol. That'll teach me to watch a period movie before sleep.
It's a glorious gorgeous day here this morning. Ted and I are going to stay home all day, NO visitors. He's downstairs watching his regular Sunday morning things and I've got my crossword puzzles lined up to dive into. I'll strip the bed, scramble some eggs, call the kids and maybe go for a little walk. Tony took his family up to Collingwood (2 hours north of here on the Niagara Escarpment) on Friday for the 4 day weekend. (Tomorrow is a statutory holiday in Ontario, Family Day.) He said Vanessa did really well in her ski lesson and afterwards he took her on a long run so she was exhausted, a good thing for an almost 4 year old, eh, Shelly? Mike is surfing in Raglan today (4 hours south of Auckland) and Nick is entertaining three Toronto friends in Whistler. His surgeon said he dislocated his patella and may be off skis all season.
Hope your Sunday is a happy one.
P.S. Moore, have you ever tried Bach's Flower Remedy "Rescue Remedy" for riding in a car as a passenger? It really, honestly DOES help, and I'm about as neurotic as you are as a passenger. Without it, I think Ted would have turfed me off into the ditch years ago. I also use it before any dental digging and in general when having to deal with unpleasant stuff, kind of a regular occurrence these days, lol. I am never, ever without it. It's worth a try. :) There's also a homeopathic remedy, gelsimium, for nervousness in travel that I have used, but you have to be careful not to sip too much as it can make you throw up. I prefer Bach's.
Jack and I just lounged around all day. Today we're watching the Daytona 500. So. Excited!!! So good to have NASCAR back!
And I'll ditto that Rescue Remedy. Kae, I don't go anywhere without since you recommended it to me. I use it for flights and stressful work days. Great stuff.
Valentines was pretty blah for me. We did go to Outback on Friday though so I had a nice piece of steak then. I have/had been craving a good steak for a long time.
