Today is a good day so far, woke up to watch a parade, had to make some potato salad for a bbq tonight before the fireworks start. All is great in my world. I hope you guys are having a great America birthday weekend.

I've been sick for a few days, and actually went in to the doctor's office at noon, on the 4th. The doctor on call had had several other patients with problems, so he opened the office for a few of us. You don't find many who will open an office on a Saturday AND a holiday, but this medical group is fantastic. The doctor who saw me Saturday (my regular doctor's partner) even used to make house calls to my childhood friend's parents, a few years ago, when they were both declining. And this guy isn't some dinosaur from the old days either, but is in his early forties.

Our son came over for a picnic and fireworks. I crawled out of bed long enough to do some deviled eggs, and I made our son and Jim grill the hot dogs. We had some watermelon, corn on the cob (I was able to cook that because it only takes a few minutes), I zapped some Stouffers mac-n-cheese, chopped some onions for the "dogs", and opened a large bag of chips.

We set up the fireworks in our usual spot, on the side yard, by the sidewalk that turns the corner from the front of our house. We usually attract neighbors, or drivers headed home who end up stopping to watch. The neighborhood swim club is usually setting off their own fireworks at the same time, so we get to see the big ones pop up over the top of the treeline, as an extra little bonus.

Lucy despises every minute of it!

The weather was nice this year. It was a comfortable temperature, with a slight breeze, and NO mosquitoes! Normally, we're all eaten alive, despite the smoke from the fireworks, and a good spray of "Off".

I was in miserable pain throughout the entire celebration, and was glad to finally crawl back into bed. It was otherwise a lovely evening, and so nice to have our son at the grill. He's rapidly becoming the "King of Grilling", so I may give him more opportunities to practice on the old folks over here!

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday.

I hope you're feeling better, Moore. There have been so many nasty bugs going around this year. You have a real gem of a doctor to see you on the big holiday!!!

All of our celebrations were cancelled this year because of the CUPE strike which takes out ALL city workers, including trash collections, so July 1 was quiet here. There was a Symphony of Fire display from Ontario Place on the 1st but it's a real p-i-t-a going down there for 10:30 so we just let it go this year. My father went down to the west end spit with a buddy, said it was spectacular.

I'm starting to feel a bit better, KaeEll. Thank you. I don't have a bug, but a recurrence of diverticulitis, and three nights ago, I would have SWORN that I was going into labor. Seriously...

The first time I was struck by this was two years ago (had it twice within a couple of weeks), but haven't had it since. I should have known to keep my mouth shut about a week ago when I told Jim that I was actually feeling rather de-stressed lately, since most of my club obligations were over for the summer, and no travels planned. I've been looking forward to relaxing and ENJOYING!

Bang! And over the darned holiday too!

I'm on the mend, though, and no longer doubled over in pain. Hooray for antibiotics.

How horrible to be sick over such a great holiday. We had a good weekend, the weather was nice and the fireworks were good. I was a little worried about taking the girls to see the fireworks but they seemed to be okay.

Moore I hope you get back to 100% soon.
