Sunday, the 23rd

I read on Facebook that Shelly arrived safely at her sister's house, so good for that! It's a long drive with 3 little ones.

The gang was here for an early dinner yesterday and I was just pooped afterwards. Today we're going to stay in and take it easy. It's muggy out there.

Marilyn , back from a month at her cottage on the south coast of Nova Scotia, is dropping over, so that'll be a nice treat. She made it back just in time before Hurricane Bill hits. She battened down the hatches at the cottage, moved the barbecue to the lee side of the house and stuck her veranda chairs in the garage. As much as I'd love to have a house right on the Atlantic Ocean, I'm not so sure about having to deal with the hurricanes every summer. She's so nonchalant about it all, a really well seasoned Maritimer!

Funny story from Marilyn's world: her brother, with whom she is really close, has 3 daughters and the eldest daughter is about to marry this September the older brother of Marilyn's daughter-in-law. They are all upset about this cross-pollination. They call it collision of worlds. To me it seems all rather convenient for planning family get-togethers, but I can sort of see their point.

Moore, so sorry you missed the doll club meeting again. I read somewhere that there are products available now for doggies that are frightened by weather conditions. I'll google around, see if I can find it for you and Lucy. Poor sweet Lucy. Poor Moore!

What's up for today?

How nice that you'll get to see your friend, Marilyn! Hurricanes or not, I would love to have a place on the ocean. I still miss the one my sister and brother-in-law had, right on the water. There were many years when they would hold their breaths, but never sustained any terrible damage to the property. There was some beach erosion, and some other stuff, but the building survived!

I agree with you about Marilyn's inlaw situation. It's hardly incestuous, and it does make things very convenient for gatherings. The need to start looking at the bright side! We all started out as each others' relatives anyway, back at the beginning.

Jim is seated on the plane, waiting to take off from Phoenix as I write this. The storms have passed, and it's a gorgeous day, so I'm looking forward to having him home again. Our son is coming over for burgers on the grill tonight. Thank the Lord that we didn't have any additional storms last night too. Lucy and I both slept peacefully...

I hope Shelly has a great visit in VA, and I hope she waived as she zipped past me! Have fun, Shelly.

Moore, did you see the article about some fellow in Phoenix that went to McDonalds for breakfast and when he reached into the bag for a napkin, he found a baby scorpion? Tell AD to stay away from McDonalds!!

We just learned that our old ski club was hit by that hurricane and ruined some of the utility buildings! I'll post a link with pics. Tony still belongs to it but Ted and I let our membership lapse a few years ago and don't miss it one bit, but it was still a shock to see how much damage was done. It's located on the Niagara Escarpment exactly half way between the town of Thornbury and Collingwood, a 2 and a half hour's drive from here.

I hadn't heard about the scorpion, but AD doesn't eat McDonald's food anyway! Hates it. Thanks for the warning, though. I think she's pretty careful about the creatures out there, and I think she already had a run-in with a baby scorpion, back when she was still a nanny for the crazy people.

That's a shame about the ski club. It had to be a shock to see tornado devastation in a place you know so well. Yikes.

It's a GORGEOUS day here -- almost like fall. Normally August is horribly humid and oppressive, but we've been lucky so far this year, and August is almost gone. Watch now, we'll get our "August" in September! I've opened windows, in an effort to air things out before the 98 degree temperatures return, and I have to seal us up again with the air conditioning.
