My friend, Marilyn, had to go pick up her hat today, a "Fascinator" she had made for her niece's wedding this Saturday. I went too because I had always wanted to see this little shop. My friend's hat looks something like those in Lililput's cocktail collection.
I haven't worn a hat in years but after spending some time in the shop/studio, I can't wait to go back and get one.
Moore, I was thinking of you when I was there today. Your dolls would look fabulous in one of the millenary creations!
I LOVE hats, and I love THOSE hats!! I'm going to download pictures for every single one, to use as inspiration in doll costuming. (Will share with the club!) Remember the days when every good department store had a hat department?
Thanks for the link. You need to get a picture of what Marilyn ended up with!

Moore, back when I was a little girl every woman wore hats! My parents used to hold cocktail parties and all the woman would come with fluffy little feathery things perched on their heads and would have long cigarette holders with rhinestones in them, lol. Every spring my mother would take me to Eaton's College Street store (now it's a Winners, Canadian version of TJ Max, ugh) to buy an Easter bonnet and I would wear it to church. We used to have to wear gloves too!
Now hats are coming back into fashion at weddings. Marilyn has always worn them and she looks fantastic in them. I went with her to Kaliyana to find an outfit and she bought one from the new collection, a three piece outfit with a tobacco coloured skirt and matching top, then a beautiful patterned asymetrical jacket, in rusts and tobacco with a touch of turquoise thrown in. The hat is a black fascinator with little feathers in a light brown sticking out on top. It's worn on the top of the brow and is kept in place by an elastic that you tuck under the hair at the back. It's whimsical and gorgeous!! I told her that she may well outshine the bride!!
The hat is all packed up with tissue in an old fashioned hat box and Marilyn has to drive a couple of hours to the groom's father's farm for the wedding. So, when she is back from that I'll nip over to her place and take some pictures of it. I wish I'd taken my camera this morning so I could show you the inside of Lilliput! It's amazingly interesting and so much FUN to be in. The owner is a lovely woman, so funny and sweet and very, very creative. I can not wait to go back and find myself something fun and cheery!
