Tuesday, November 24

It's been a little quiet around here.

Shelly is on her Michigan trek, so I've been seeing on Facebook, and trying her hand at deer hunting. Shelly, I'll spare you the diatribe, but at least you were "unsuccessful, as in not having shot and killed one. And what does the family do if/when there is a kill?

We've been busy with a funeral and trucking people off to airports for trips far away. My friend's mother passed away last Thursday, not unexpectedly, but still sad. She's still running on adrenaline, so I expect by next week she'll have come down with something to keep her immobile for a few days. Mike and Maya re now airborne, off to the west to see Nick before heading down to NZ.

There was a "fire" to put out at my parents' house again this morning; a tempest in a teacup, as usual, but it needed sorting out.

Moore, and Sundancer, have you begun the preps for the dinner this week? Bran, are you still heading out to relatives for the feast? I feel almost lost, not doing anything this year, but it's a relief in a way. Ted and I can celebrate our wedding anniversary for a change as we married on the long weekend way back when, so that our friends and relatives could attend. Where have the years gone? I look at our big kids, the grandchildren, and think the same thing all the time. I'm still 19 years old, in a way, lol. Not that I'd want to be a kid again, knowing what I do now, but still, LIFE is short!!

So what's up?

Well I am trying my hand at deer hunting. I think it is kind of exhilarating. And since my brother in law already got 2, and my FIL got 1 I would imagine the one I get will be donated. I got a doe tag which would feed a lot of really hungry people this year. I intend to take some of the meat home, I just love the potato sausage that gets made from deer meat. I actually saw a pretty good size doe last night but something spooked her and she took off.

Anyways, I am unsure how much cooking I will have to do this thanksgiving. My SIL is in charge because mom has to work in the morning. We are having a late dinner because my husbands oldest sister comes in at 5. She is the one who almost died just after the twins were born. She is doing okay and is coming home for a couple of days. She hasn't seen any of our girls yet.

I am sorry to hear that you have had to deal with the funeral of a friends mom. My friend Richie lost his mom extremely unexpectedly last week and they had her funeral yesterday. And then my friend Leanne said her bosses son had an anyerism or however that is spelled at his football game, is now on life support. Talk about a horrible month. Just before the "family" holidays.

Kae I hope you have a wonderful anniversary. I love hearing about good solid marriages. You know in the Navy it seems so many people give up too easily. Oh, and I mentioned to Vinnie about how I would love to come up your way some day. The only thing he said was that we would need to get passports for me (can't believe I don't have one) and our girls. So its a possibility.

I am happy to hear the problem with your parents seemed to have gotten put out kind of quickly.

Wow, this place is quiet. Is anyone watching soaps? I know I kind of have to watch GH just because of the Jr Mod thing, so I would imagine Moore is still watching AMC.

Shelly, I don't really watch the soaps much now. Some days I will look in on Y&R but it's silly so much of the time that I get disgusted and turn it off. I don't like the recycled crap with Jack, Emily (the shrink), Patty, Sharon and that poor excuse for Adam. Don't get me started on Lily and Cane. Ugh.

AMC is okay-ish sometimes but it baffles me why the nonsense with David and Amanda has continued. It's ridiculous, in my opinion. OLTL just turns me off. As I've said before the Stacy business was just the last straw. Then they brought DEAD Mitch back. Please. Is there no imagination left anywhere in the soap writer world? It's insulting.

I HAVE been watching Dancing with the Stars though! It's entertaining!! I've even grown to enjoy, rather than barely tolerate, Tom Bergeron. Not a fan of that Mya thing, not at all. There's something about her sense of entitlement that rubs me the wrong way, to say the least. I was so pleasantly surprised that Donny's fans kept him around and that the blonde bathing beauty dimwit was canned. YAY!! There IS justice somewhere out there, non?

Anyone going to watch the finale tonight?

I think I will watch the finale. I have had a hard time watching any tv at the in laws house. They are big football people. I have missed a lot. Did you ever catch The Good Wife yet. Its pretty good. Comes on after the 2nd NCIS.

Anyways, I am kind of bored and tired. The girls sleep schedule is all crazy from our move.

Argh, football fans, huh? Welcome to a slice of purgatory, lol. At least there won't be football on tonight to mess up the finale, I hope, for your sake.

I've recorded Good Wife a couple of time, have yet to watch. Our evenings have been a bit upside down lately too. Things ought to settle down now that most of the nomads are gone, for NOW, anyway. I miss them already, though. It never seems to get any easier.

Sorry that boredom has reared its head, Shelly. It's never easy trying to fit into another's household and keep things buoyant and fun. Maybe this is the time to chill out before getting yourselves organised into the new housing! That ought to cure the boredom!!

While Y&R is on, I'll go peel potatoes and marinate some chicken. It's already DARK out there, not even 5 p.m.

This Thanksgiving will be one of my quietest. I will make a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for just my husband and myself. I won't watch any football games. I doubt that my husband will, either. We will be eating leftovers for the next few days!

Hey all!

Sounds like everyone is pretty busy! I came home tonight from work and had to get my pina colada cake cooking so I could cool it overnight. I'll put the finishing touches on it in the morning, and then cook up the sweet potatoes, then head over to the family's around 1. I'm sure we'll just pig out and watch football. My bro is doing the fried turkey thing this year. Yum.

Other than that, I'm just super excited for a four day weekend. Hope everyone's thanksgivings are fantastic tomorrow! And enjoy your impending anniversary celebrations Kae!

Yeah, well the anniversary celebrations were a no-go. Ted was 6 and a half hours late getting back from Ottawa and walked in the door at 11:30 as I was taking off makeup and in my nightie. He managed to miss the 4, then 5, then 6, 7 and 8 o'clock flights, DID manage to get himself on a 9:45 one that was delayed. He mumbled an apology. He has this IDIOTIC attitude that it is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. It doesn't work.

I am so tired of disappointments. I know that they need to be taken in stride, but some days I just don't have the goodwill to do it. Am pissed off, but mostly hurt. C'est la vie.

I'm so sorry Kae! That really sucks. I really hope that he at least attempts to make it up to you.

KaeEll, I'm so sorry about the anniversary celebration that didn't happen. That's definitely a disappointment, and you've already had your share of those lately. Are you going to try to do something this weekend, as a belated attempt to have a quiet dinner together? If so, Ted needs to bring something sparkly, to hand you across the table..!!

You're very right about how quickly time goes by. Jim and I were talking about this the other night when we took our son out for his 25th birthday dinner. Jim and I looked at each other, and realized that we've been together ** years, having had our first date on November 14th, 19**. (It's way too scary to write out in black and white, but ultimately kind of cool...) Then twelve years married without any babies, and now there are three, and they're all grown. Crazy...

Sundances, from everything I can tell, many people had unusual Thanksgivings this year. I don't quite know what's made the difference, but many were spent in very small groups, or in locations where they're not normally celebrated. Maybe next year will be a little more normal.

Waves to Shelly and jojo, and where's Brandon these days??

It's nearly noon, and I'm still not dressed. I guess I'd better go shower, and do something productive!
