Here's a pic of Nick as an official at Whistler. His events to host were the biathalon, ski jumping, cross-country skiing and Nordic combined.
Can you imagine being so excited to be working for Vanoc (Vancouver Olympic Committee) and then be told to wear that beaver costume? Lucky Nick just had to don the turquoise jacket, lol.
It's almost over now! It's been quite the couple of weeks.
Hey Kae, do they have post cards for the Olympics? It is so awesome how involved Nick is, and thank goodness for him he didn't have to don the beaver thing. I am with Moore, the turquoise is much better.
Nice pic. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the winter games, much more so than the summer ones. I'm really bummed this is the last day. It's been a great games for North America! I can imagine Nick is having a blast in Whistler.
Shelly, they do have postcards-My friend in Alberta sent me some, as she knows how much I love postcards. She also sent me a bunch of Canada gear, including some Olympics apparel for Jack. Although, we would get glares if we were to wear our stuff out today, considering the big hockey game going on today. *snicker*
I love post cards too. At one point i thought I would do my bathroom in an around the globe theme. I might still. And then I could frame the various post cards. Kae has sent me several as her children are such world travelers.
I have a ton of postcards. I have one large frame with a Canadian postcard collage. It's my favorite. I have tons of framed collages though. I love me some postcards.
Snail mail is becoming so ancient that it's like getting a little treasure in the mail.
Well, huge PHEW that the games are over now, lol. We spoke to Nick last night - he called us here at our time, 10:45, and he was exhausted but he and the g/f plus another couple were going to drive the 7 hours to Revelstoke BC for a little time off and some good skiing for 3 days. He has to work the Para Olympics starting this Friday and needed the break.
I asked him what his highlight was for the last 17 days and he said, that among all the other wonderful moments, it probably had to be the hockey game yesterday that brought Canada the gold. Then again, he's a hockey fan in spite of his upbringing, lol. Ted was watching it downstairs while I was in the kitchen and I heard him first groan then cheer, then he bounded up the stairs with a grin on his face. Bear in mind that Ted was born and raised in Kansas, lol. Gets under the skin, this Canadian thing. (wheezy snort)
Anyway, it's all over now but for the clean-up.
I'll ask Nick to collect some postcards and other snail-mail-worthy odds and ends and will send them to you when I get them. I'm sure the town is inundated with souvenirs.
Getting ready for my father's birthday party here on Wednesday. We're just gathering for tea at 4 so I have the sandwiches to make and the cake to order. It's been a while since we talked about tea sandwiches, non? Cucumber and cream cheese, salmon, roast beef, and ham and cheese, all on thinly sliced Pepperidge Farm breads, if I can find the darn loaves. Otherwise I'll have to use the rolling pin on regular bread to make the slices skinny enough. Keeps me out of mischief, this family stuff all the time.
Our son came over yesterday afternoon to watch the hockey game with Jim and me. WHAT A GAME!! I was actually thinking about Ted yesterday, wondering who he'd be cheering for. When the U.S. scored their second goal with about ten seconds left in the game, we all screamed! Canada played the better game, though, and deserved to win.
Good luck with making all of those tea sandwiches. Love them! Back when Jim and I were dating (and we lived next door to each other then), Jim's mother made tea almost every afternoon, so I'd scoot next door for all the goodies. Sometimes we'd play Cribbage on a special brass Cribbage board that was made for her father (has his name inscribed in the center). I was never very good at it, but it was fun to play. Jim and I actually have that board now, and really ought to begin playing again. It's been years, so I think he might have to teach me all the nuances again! All I remember now is "fifteen-two, fifteen-four, fifteen-six, and a pair for eight." LOL...

Pfft, Kae i just saw on SOC that the guy who plays Adam on YnR has gotten the boot. I sure hope that the character goes too.
Anyways, YAY Canada. That was a great game. I am glad I actually watched it rather then skip it like I usually do with sports.
The sandwiches sound good. I wish I had known in advance i would have sent them to you. Although they might have gotten damaged in the mail. Who knows.
I am SO excited. My friend from Red Deer bought and mailed to me the official Canada beanie hat and those adorable red mittens!! I have been coveting a pair of those mittens since I read a story about how they were all the craze. Wee! She also sent some stickers and magnets. I can't tell you how much I LOVE getting Canada gear.
I was wondering if Nick had to do the paralympics too...That should be a lot less crowded than the regular games, but still lots of work.
Good luck with all those tea sandwiches! Love cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches.
