Leave them alone, and they'll come home...

Geez, what a week. Nick, in Revelstoke for a little break of skiing powder with some friends, took a tumble (he was leaping off a 30 foot drop with his skis) and tore his MCL, a third stage tear, and has to have the surgery on it. So no Para Olympics hosting for him. My first instinct was to charge out there on a plane, but he has his g/f and lots of others looking out for him, so we're going to stay put.

Then my friend, Marilyn, had series of mini-strokes. She had laser surgery on her eyes so she wouldn't have to use eye-glasses... long story. She's finally in Sarasota now but has plenty of company. Her faculties are all in tact, she can see, she has no lasting effects, but she'll need the same procedure Ted had almost 2 years ago as soon as she gets home.

We had my father's 89th birthday party here yesterday; tea, sandwiches, cake, hot chocolate for the kids and a huge mess to clean up afterwards. The house sure does take a beating when those little ones come over, lol.

Today I'm off to have my hair colour changed. I'm not sure what this new hairdresser has in mind, but I'm sick of even addressing it, so I'm leaving it up to him and his colour girl. They said lighter would be better, so we'll see. It's just hair, the least of life's concerns.

Mike's still in NZ but leaves in a day or so for Los Angeles where he likes to de-compress from the time change. Then he'll be back here next Friday. Tony's back from 2 weeks in California and leaves again Tuesday for Philadelphia for 3 days. He's back to the travelling routine - more lucrative, and they have that addition to their house to pay for.

There was something else that had my attention, but it's slipped my mind, lol. It'll come back, no doubt.

And Shelly, yeah, I saw that about the Adam guy on Y&R! Maybe it's just me, but that soap has seemed so damn silly lately that I hardly watch it any more. Last time I looked, Jana was in a cave or something, and I though, omg, how gd stupid to do that thing again.

I hope all of you are well and as stress-free as possible. Life sure does keep us hopping, non? (Oh, the headlines here are full of nonsense this morning about missing hockey sticks and changing the wording of the national anthem. "Somebody" must think Canadians need a distraction. LOL!)

Aww, poor Nick. Talk about bad luck. Stinks he won't be doing the Para Olympics. And I don't blame you one bit for wanting to go to him ASAP. When did Marilyn have her strokes? How scary.

Happy to hear the birthday went okay. Also happy to hear that it was the kids who made things difficult instead of your parents.

I hope the salon trip was nice. How did the color turn out?

I am thrilled that Adam is out. I just never took to this one. I liked the other one better, the character as a whole was despicable so the bad actor didn't help. And I hate that Sharon is always the victim. I don't like the Jana mess but its better then most soaps that right couples cheat on each other in order to provide entertainment. Lately I have only been watching GH but that is only because I kind of have to.

I am doing okay. Am stuffed up enough that my ears really need to pop and I can't seem to be able to do it. Any ideas?

Shelly, Ted had a really bad cold brewing 3 days ago, sinus problems and headache, stuffed up nose, etc. I made him each night a strong drink with honey, juice of half a lemon, 2 ounces of rum, a cinnamon stick and topped up with boiling water. He downed it quickly, went to bed and sweated it off. He's 100% now. He probably came down with it because of lack of sleep (work has been nuts) and not washing his hands enough, especially after riding the subway. It's always worth a try, smile.gif

Otherwise, try steam from the bathroom to help clear up the sinuses. And eucalyptus oil! You can find it in most health stores. The fumes have a healing effect.

The hair turned out just okay. It turns out the colour girl knows me, but we've not figured out exactly how yet. We thought it was from a coffee shop, but that doesn't ring true. Drives me crazy, lol.

I'll come back later after the Friday stuff.

Good HEAVENS, KaeEll. I'm so sorry to hear about Nick AND Marilyn! Did the laser surgery have something to do with the strokes? That was about the last thing she needed in her life, but I'm glad she's doing well, and can relax in Sarasota. You and I should take a trip together, down there. You can stay with Marilyn, and I'll stay with my friend, Liliane! My sister used to live on Casey Key, just across a little bridge from Sarasota...

I think your reaction to Nick's accident (wanting to go immediately there) is how our guts react, as parents. You're probably wise to rethink the trip, though; that's a long way to go just to take a look, to reassure yourself that he's really okay!

Glad the tea went well. Let us know about your new hair color! I'm like you with my hair; I don't really care what someone does to it because mine grows so fast, it doesn't really make any difference. If I don't like a cut, it'll be gone in two weeks anyway. LOL! Same for the color. You can always change it to something else...

Yea, Moore, lol. The hair thing is more of a nuisance than anything else. On the one hand I don't want to look like some kind of dumpy old hag, on the other, those over-groomed, over-botoxed-out twits mincing around with shopping bags full of accouterments to their aging frames makes me queasy. If there's some kind of medium to it all, I've never found it. LOL! It was easier being young enough to get away with just about anything, *snort* Peh to all of it.

SO I've heard nothing from Nick, so presumably he's well enough not to have to phone home for help. He's planning another club crawl this weekend so that must be on track.

Tony's new nanny started today! YAY YAY YAY!!! Her name is Ethel. Ethel. Humph, eh? I know nothing more than that. I think I'll take them all out for brunch on Sunday for a pile of waffles with strawberries and syrup on top, hear all about it.

Mike is home in Toronto a week today. He just called me, in fact. (Love skype.)

Shelly, how's that cold in the nose?

Anybody watching AI this time? Is it just me again, or do the contestants this year seem crappier than usual? I like Crystal , the girl with the dreads, and Casey, but only because he's adorable. The rest of them STINK, IMHO.

I think I actually might have an ear infection or something. The cold isn't as bad as this feeling in my ears. And its causing me a bit of vertigo and making me nauseous. Blech.

I am not watching Idol. I haven't in a couple of years.

I guess I don't feel up to typing too much. Am going to take some benedryl and go to sleep.

Shelly, have you gone to a doctor about your ears? I hope they get better.

I went this morning. I do have an ear infection. They didn't give me an anti-biotic though. Just some nose spray. I am fairly certain that the ears are sinus related so the nose spray should help.

I hate going to the doctors. But threw up everything that I have eaten the last 2 days. Seriously not the way I wanted to lose weight.

Oh, Shelly... feel better! That just sucks.

I was gone for most of the day yesterday, so I'm a bit behind here. KaeEll, I'm definitely watching American Idol; we wouldn't miss it! I think that there are some interesting voices this year, and I do like several of the women. I also love the big huggie-bear guy whose name I can't think of right now.

Yay for having a nannie!

Must run, but will check back in later...
