Theres a shake-up at the top of the food chain at ABC.
ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson is resigning after six years at the network, according to Deadline.com.
The controversial exec is stepping down from his position, after reaching an agreement to end his contract with Disney. His deal was not due to expire until September 2011.
One of the reasons cited for McPhersons departure, which has been rumored for months, is his rocky relationship with Disney/ABC TV Group president Anne Sweeney, reports The Live Feed.
McPherson has served as the ABC network chief since 2004 and assumed control of ABC Studios in 2009.
During his tenure, McPherson was responsible for developing Desperate Housewives, Lost and Greys Anatomy. (Hes also the one responsible for canceling all those shows that you loved. You know the ones.)
A statement released by ABC/Disney reads:
Steve McPherson today submitted his resignation as President, ABC Entertainment Group, and the Company accepted. Mr. McPherson said, I want to thank the wonderful team of individuals who have worked with me throughout my time here and wish them nothing but the best. A replacement for Mr. McPherson will be announced shortly.
UPDATE: ABC Family President Paul Lee has been named the new president of ABC Entertainment Group. Paul Lee has had incredible success for the last 6 years and has built the ABC Family brand from scratch, says an insider.
