On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.
Who here served in the military or had someone close to you that did serve? My grandfather served during World War I, my father during World War II, and my husband during the Viet Nam War.
Tonight at our weekly square dance, our club is honoring all the veterans in a special ceremony.

My husband is home today. Well, sort of; he went to lunch with a neighbor and is now out running some errands. Consequently, I keep thinking that it's Saturday instead of Thursday! LOL... Anyway, he noted earlier today that our family represents all branches of the military when both sides are put together. My husband's father was an officer/fighter pilot in the Air Force (in Europe) and HIS father was career Army. My own father was an officer in the Navy during WWII, onboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. (He also survived a massive and rather famous typhoon that tossed his carrier around like it was a cigarette!) My nephew was in the Marines for a couple of years. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines!
Happy Veterans Day!

Vinnie is home as well. Happy Vets Day to everyone. I am a Vet, both of my grandfathers were retired airforce, my 2 older brothers were Marines. My FIL is retired Navy. Seems like it is everywhere. And of course I live near Norfolk so lots and lots of military everywhere.
