cookware suggestions

i'm in the market for a new set of cookware.....looking to spend NO MORE than $150 max.  i'm looking mainly as stainless steel since i'm sick to death of the non~stick stuff coming off & scratching.  forget califon since it's way out of my pricerange.

what do you use?  what brand?  what do you love about it/hate about it?

thanks for the input.

I use tupperware, only because I got it piece by piece as gifts. They are expensive, but really good. SO I guess I dont have the right answer for you

In terms of skillets, I only use cast iron. Always have, and likely always will. I also have a cast iron pot that I love for chili and soup.
I have a few saucepans, but I don't know the brand. They're my mom's, and they're not one particular brand, but they've lasted long.

I suck. I'm sorry.

I hate to throw a bucket of cold water on your plan, but you're going to have a really difficult time getting a decent set of cookware for $150.00.

Le Creuset is one of the best lines -- it's enamel over cast iron, and it's excellent.  However, it is a little heavy, and the enamel can chip over time.  It distributes heat beautifully, though.  It's also very expensive...

All-Clad, Calphalon, Emeril's cookware (even Rachel Ray has her own line now), and any of the really heavy stainless steel style pots and pans are good.  You want to be certain that the bottom isn't just thin aluminium which will simply end up burning everything you try to cook.

Farberware has also been around for a long time, and is okay, but it isn't quite as good as something like Calphalon.

With the top-of-the-line stuff, $150.00 will probably buy you two pieces.

To get familiar with what's out there, and what it all costs, go to:

www.cooking.com, and www.bedbathandbeyond.com, and click onto "cookware"...

In the meantime, however, I've done a little research for you!  Bed, Bath, and Beyond has a set of Emeril's cookware for about $150.00.  Go to:  http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/stylePage.asp?order_num=-1&rn=397&rnt=0&ipp=8&brand=40

I also found a nice cookware set on Cooking.com which was originally for $300.00, and is now on sale for $99.00!  Go to:  http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=131651

They also have Farberware.  http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=131903

If I find anything else, I'll post it for you!  Keep us posted...

I have Cuisinart, all-clad. It's an incredible set of pot's and pans. It's a thick aluminum set, with none of the non-stick coatings. Macy's sells the 10-piece set for around $250.00, but I just picked up a set for my mother, last week for her birthday. It was on sale for $150.00.

I absolutely love the set! It has a beautiful mirror surface, that after 1.5 years, still looks like the day that I purchased it. The best part is that you can put them into the dishwasher, and they come flawless. They're a heavy set of pots and pans, with handles that never get hot, and they are also able to be used in the oven, up to 550 degrees.

I've never burnt a thing in them. There are other pieces that you can purchase also, but the 10-piece set is really great, and has everything that I've needed.

That's my recomendation! There are also customer ratings on Macy's web site, for the set.

Hey, Kris.

Have you checked into that cookware yet?  I would definitely take a look at this link, if I were you, before it goes back to full price.
