From Dan: As mentioned in soapcentral.com's FrontPage news coverage of Kin Shriner's return to GH in January, ABC is whispering about some sort of new storytelling format for its February Sweeps period. Here is what ABC is saying publicly:
[Shriner's] return will coincide with an explosive storyline for the upcoming February sweep where a new storytelling technique will be used, a first in daytime.
Inquiries about this new daytime first have gone unreturned by ABC (so far). So I thought it might be fun for us to speculate about what this might be.
I'll start with what it cannot be.
It will not be a high-definition broadcast. Y&R has been doing that for several years.
It will not be a cinema-like handicam format. AMC has been making fans seasick with that for about six months and other soaps have used a less shaky version for some time.
It will not be smell-o-vision. That technology is not yet available.
So what will it be? ===============================================================
I suggested a first person view on the explosion where Scotty returns and then just sees everyone else and that's how we experience an episode or two

maybe they are going to do what Dallas did and undo everything from when Laura went into her coma...They havent done that on daytime. Can you imagine the things they would have to undo....Wow, AJ could still be alive.
what i've read most recently is that the explosion will take place end of january....tied in w/whatever lorenzo is up to. then we will get a period of time where we see what happens hour by hour (like 24).

I think hour by hour would be okay for about 5-8 shows and then it would just get utterly dull. There's only so much you can do in soaps. Hopefully this isn't a long term change.

If it's hour by hour for more then two weeks, then that show is going to see its ratings slip unless they're doing something extremely compelling. Soap fans aren't a very patience bunch overall so if this goes long, people could get bored real fast. Guess we'll see though.
