shit I would rather lose Regis then lose a soap. Its totally different then NBC canceling Passions. That show sucks and has only been on the air a few years, compared to the decades that ABC soaps have been on. Grr, I don't like this idea
Ummm if they get rid of one of the soaps I will never watch ABC again. I don't care what shows they have left after it's all said and done; I will not watch anything on their channel.
Like I said, I would rather get rid of Regis. Why does ABC always have to do what NBC does. Just because NBC will have a longer morning show doesnt mean that it will be better. And as for what shows will go, I agree with Jess. If they would listen to fans for a change then they would get new writers for at least AMC and OLTL. GH is questionable.
Has anyone seen the ratings lately? I thought that AMC and OLTL were pretty much tied for low ratings, although if I had to bet, I'd bet on OLTL being cancelled, but AMC's writing is just awful these days, IMHO.
I can't see how they can cancel such a long running show, what the heck would they put in place of soaps? I know for sure I won't turn the TV on then, I'm too busy, but am a loyal soap fan

I so totally agree with this Shelly. NBC's third hour they already have is tripe and fluff as it is and the fourth one will just be WORSE!!
I'll believe it when I see it. SON doesn't always have the best reputation and remember "rumors are swirling" can simply be "we need to write something so we made a rumor based on another one".

in our market it's that stupid who wants to be a millionre show that airs on abc at 9a. wouldn't mind if that got cancelled.
just b/c one soap is getting cancelled to support yet another unnecessary hour of the today show (i'm a GMA watcher) doesn't mean abc will necessarily cancel a soap. if they do, however, i think it will be OLTL.
i think expanding these morning shows is one of the stupidest ideas the networks have ever had.

SON has some crazy stuff, but so does a lot of other sites.
It seems their reporting for an impending Passions cancellation is spot on. It's pretty much a goner. Soap opera weekly and digest are now running with it. From their breaking news page:
NBC Pulls the Plug on PASSIONS PASSIONS has been canceled by NBC to make room for a fourth hour of the TODAY show, according to sources close to the soap. The cast and crew were told on Tuesday, Jan. 16. PASSIONS, which premiered on July 5, 1999, was the brainchild of veteran daytime scribe James E. Reilly. While never a ratings success, the show created buzz with its outrageous storylines and characters, especially the unlikely "supercouple" of a 300-year-old witch, Tabitha, and her living doll and partner-in-crime, Timmy. PASSIONS is expected to air through the summer, at which time the TODAY show will expand to four hours.
Passions has been in the crapper for a long time, so they're just going to finally flush it. No ABC soap is really doing horrible comparatively to the others so I don't see why ABC would cancel just because NBC does a cancel. That's not how it works.

this is definitely one of those I will believe it when I see it, and the way AMC is going, I wouldnt mind losing it. They can send Zarf over to Lanview. Higley is bad, but she isnt McTrash bad.
I say dump both McTrash and Higley get someone good (like Days did) and then let's see. I mean honestly I can't help but wonder if the writers of the show actually watch what they write.
our local news has slots on GMA every half hour for local news. then we have an hour long local news at noon. they won't need that if GMA expands. therefore IMO there would be no need to cancel a soap.
the rumors are swirling....not just about this. the casting rumors are going absolutely wild right now.

As much as I bitch and complain about it, I would be muy upset to lose AMC. Very, very upset. Both McTavish and Higley need to get thrown out on their asses. Now. I have invested too much of my time over the years to both shows, and I'm pissed at what's become of them. But I don't want them canceled. Watching them may come in cycles for me (I haven't watched a full episode of OLTL in a month), but I will always want them around.
