why Spencer shot TM

I always thought there would be some big reveal as to why Spencer shot and killed Thomas McBain, like he had evidence to put him away or something

But it appears they never gave any kind of reason, Spencer just decided to be in that alley that night and shoot?  Then he went to the hospital to be sure the job was done.  And simultaneously set up Paige??? 

Was it supposed to make sense?

we're talking higley here, tina. nothing she does makes sense. we may never get an explanation of why spencer killed pappa mc bain.

in all honesty i don't think it matters anymore.
